N5VLZ:
The time change back to Standard Time
occurs on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2am local
time. The time for this net, and most
other nets won't change, but the UTC
times will be an hour later. If you
forget to "fall back", you'll be an
hour early to church, work, medical
appointments, ham radio nets, etc.
Our next net holidays are Nov. 25
for Thanksgiving Week, Dec. 23 for
Christmas Week, and Dec. 30 for New
Year's week.
I almost didn't make it here tonight.
I had taken Lyft to my PCP, but they
had forgotten to put the appointment
for the full physical, blood work, A1C
check, etc. into the computer. I had
the appointment card to show them, so
it was their error...I should send them
a bill (hi hi). At least I got a flu
shot, but, my fasting was all for
nothing.
However, on the way home, just down the
street from the clinic, my Lyft driver
got careless, basically failing to yield,
and we got t-boned. I got jostled around
the back seat, and after I had given my
ID info to the police, plus I asked if
they needed me anymore (they said "no"),
I walked back to the clinic with my walker.
I was shaking real bad, and my pulse and
heart rate was up, but I wasn't short of
breath. I told the staff what happened,
and they recommended I get ambulatory to
an area Emergency Room to get checked out.
They did neck X-Rays, suspecting whiplash,
but it was neck strain. The pain medication
won't be in until Tuesday, and there was
even "a patient elopement" from the ER
while I was there!!
I need to eat something to take medication
with, but right now, my appetite is gone.
I canceled The Pun In Life Net tonight, but
wanted this net as a bit of a diversion.
A square dance couple brought me back home,
so I didn't have to pay for the ride home
(the Lyft driver canceled it), and I didn't
want to ride with him anymore...I'll bet he
gets suspended or fired. I'll probably be
hounded by ambulance chaser lawyers, as I
was after a car wreck shortly after my Mom
died just over 5 years ago (I wasn't at
fault in that wreck, either). After Uber
frauded my bank card, I will do nothing
else with them. I can't drop Lyft, or I'll
have no way to get to appointments...since
I have no family left, and all my friends
are tied up during the day.
47 of Arkansas' 75 counties are now under
burn bans. A chance of rain and storms is
forecast Saturday and Saturday night, but
rain amounts don't look all that impressive.
There are frost and freeze advisories for
north Arkansas for Wednesday morning. The
leaves are falling off the trees, as it
has been so dry. I'll just be glad when
the grass stops growing until spring,
where I won't have to worry about it being
mowed.
My sister-in-law and I went down to the
Pulaski County Courthouse this past week
to fill out the paperwork, and transfer
my late brothers assets to her. The form
was printed with "ant feet" as the print
was rather small, and I got a bad case of
writers cramp...I'm NOT used to filling out
forms!! I'm letting her sort through all
of the monetary assets, and pay the taxes...
then she'll split everything with me, 50/50.
At least both the personal property and real
estate taxes are paid. She still has a bunch
of expenses to make on what was my late
brother's mobile home. He would have rather
spent money on eating out every day, than on
more prudent, necessary expenses.
I created a certificate for "The Purple
Crystal Award", given to hams who timeout
repeaters, reflectors, etc. I'll create
personalized ones, my email is good on QRZ,
and a sample photo is on my QRZ profile.
I hope to do a license exam session this
Saturday. It'll be our last one of the year.
At least the Lyft ride to/from the session
qualifies as a reimbursable expense.

KX4AC:
GE All. I won't be able to make the net
tonight, so I am sending an early checkin.
I made it through the storm fairly well.
Being on the east coast was a big help;
the people on the gulf coast got it far
worse. Here, we have some big trees down,
lots of branches and larger limbs broken,
and one of the mailbox units at the
apartment complex got blown over.
I heard reports of several tornadoes, but
thankfully none at my location. I was
without power for 16 hours, so I pulled out
my camp stove to boil water for tea and for
freeze-dried scrambled eggs and bacon. Dinner
was a beef-stew MRE. Not too bad overall.
Everything is pretty much back to normal now.
The ISS has been transmitting slow-scan TV
images for the last couple of days. There
were some pretty good passes on Sunday. Here
are the best of the images that I got:

I should be back in-person next week. In the meantime,
I hope all are well. 73, Carl, KX4AC >>>

NS2B:
GE All!
A lot less eventful than your week (or day) it sounds!
Speaking of exciting ERs - I think every time I've
been in mine there's either a gunshot victim or some such.
'Tis the season for flu shots - got mine last week - still
pondering the covid shot - if the covid looks nasty i may
get that too.
Didn't do much on the radio front. But saw a video from
KV4P - he's designed a dongle thingy that hooks to an
android phone and makes a 2M HT for you. Wish he had the
app for iphones - it looks like a fun little project.
WX here is turning winter - frost warnings south of us -
snow possibilities east of us - i guess winter is coming.
That's all for me Daryl, BTU >>>

N5VLZ:
Bob, at least no one starting puking while I was in
there, or I would have joined them <urk!>. As for the
shots, I'm not messing with the covid one anymore, not
since having no energy after the 3rd booster. Would
rather do the redneck covid test...with the glass of
wine up to your nose and mouth...if you can smell and
taste it, you're negative (hi hi). That deal with the
device making the android an HT sounds exciting...
something I might be interested in. They have frost
advisories and freeze warnings for north Arkansas for
Wednesday morning.
GE Mike, you'll be after Bob (OK).
GE Bob (OK), how was your week?? >>>
**
KF5TVG:
GE Daryl and all!
Weather has finally started to moderate a bit. At 66F
right now and feels great!
Have spent the last few days off and on documenting
how to set up an older ICOM IC-7100 for FT8 use. It
is a radio that was owned by a SK that passed about
2 years ago. He had disabilities, and asked his family
to give it to another ham with disabilities. I bumped
into his brother a couple of months ago, and he guessed
I was a ham! Maybe my ballcap with my callsign was the
tipoff! Hi Hi.
After hearing his brother's wishes, I volunteered to
help find a new home for his equipment. Found a couple
of people last Saturday that matched, and am delivering
the equipment tomorrow night. Glad I could help, but
I'm guessing it will take a bit of effort to get them
on the air with wsjtx, as they've requested.
Listened to a recent hamradioworkbench podcast, and the
guest has a website called whiskeytangohotel.com . On
it is a bunch of simple projects he's done over the
years... some ham related some not. One is called a
retired guys clock, which I couldn't resist making.
Check it out!
That's all for now, back to you Daryl>>>
**
N5VLZ:
Bob, at least it's not whiskey tango foxtrot...because
even after Tuesday, the calendar says WTF (hi hi).
FB on the ham radio stuff...lots of things now have a
steep learning curve.
GE Mike, how was your week?? >>>
**
KE8QPX:
GE everyone.
Week was ok. Fast. Seemed fast as it passed so quickly.
Again.
Haven't done a lot new in radio, still exploring packet
in the local area. Michigan has a nice network of sites
but there are sort of all alike. Still, I'm learning,
and it's fun.
Weather has been cooler, but nothing has turned here yet.
Saw on Youtube that one of the Chinese radios HT now has
full TNC access. So am keeping my eye on that. Think this
is about all I know at the moment. :) Back to net>>>
**
N5VLZ:
Mike, you are always learning something in ham radio.
I'd be leery of the Chinese gear...especially after the
pagers over in the Middle East got detonated!! I still
have an MFJ 1270C TNC with a power supply and cable to
the USB port, but no rig or cable for it. MFJ is long
gone now.
That'll do it for round 1. Back to the top for final
comments.
Bob (NY), thanks for the BBS, and for being on standby
for me tonight. Anything else for us?? >>>
**
NS2B:
Nothing more here - everyone have a good week - stay
warm! 73 >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Bob. I want the grass to quit
growing until spring. The trees are so stressed with
the dry weather, that the leaves are falling off like
mad.
Bob (OK), anything else for us?? >>>
**
KF5TVG:
Nothing else. Daryl, hope you have a much better week
after that rough one last week! Bob (NY) thanks for
the use of the BBS. 73 all! >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Bob...have a good week.
Mike, you get to wrap it up tonight...anything else
for us?? >>>
**
KE8QPX:
Hear you on those radios, but I thought I saw that
they were Icoms. Wonder if Carl from FLA made out ok
with hurricane. Thanks everyone. >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Mike, Carl said that being on the East Coast was a
big help, that folks on the Gulf Coast got it far
worse. He had some big trees down, lots of branches,
and larger limbs broken, and one mailbox unit at the
apartment got blown over. There were several tornadoes,
but none where he was at. He was without power for 16
hours, so he pulled out his camp stove, to boil water
for tea, and for freeze dried scrambled eggs and bacon.
Dinner was a beef stew MRE. Otherwise, he's OK. That
report is from his email, as he was at a meeting
tonight. He should be back next week, so you can get
more from him then. Thanks for being here.
That will do it for tonight's PCL Net. Everyone have a
good week, and I'll post the scribe tomorrow.
73 and GN DE N5VLZ >>>
