N5VLZ:

We have 2 more PCL Nets for 2024 after tonight, on
Dec. 9 and 16. Then, we won't meet again until Jan.
6, 2025. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday
season.

I'm still waiting for Santa to "Define Naughty" (hi
hi). I have absolutely no plans during the Christmas
holidays, as I got burned out years ago for all the
commercialism. I don't do any Christmas related items;
whether it's decorations, parties, church cantatas,
music, shopping, etc. I'm Scrooge from mid-November
through mid-January.

Sorry I missed the net 2 weeks ago. I had a nervous
breakdown with a major panic/anxiety attack, and I
ended up in the psychiatric ward for nearly a week.
One ham quipped that "with my release, I'm sane, but
the rest of us are not so lucky" (hi hi). We were
fattened up like turkeys for Thanksgiving, served
double portions on the 3 meals per day!! Some folks
in there were in far worse shape than I was, with
violence, and maybe even demon possession...it was
creepy. My roommate invited me to join him for the
Thanksgiving Day dinner at a local area buffet,
since he didn't want to go with his wife to her Mom's
for the holiday. However, everyone else had the same
idea to go out and eat (hi hi).

We finally had a statewide hard freeze over the
Thanksgiving Day holiday weekend, and I got my final
lawn mow until the spring. Too early to tell what
kind of winter we will have, but much of the country
will start December in the icebox. I noted where many
cities in the lee of the Great Lakes are getting 2 to
5 feet or more of Lake Effect Snow!! They will have
bad flooding when all that melts!!

I canceled both of the psychiatric therapy sessions
this week, due to colder weather, the shortage of Lyft
drivers, and the very high costs. It cost me $30 to go
to church recently, and would've cost over $100 to come
back home, had one of the members not given me a ride
back. I love the church, but I hate imposing on folks,
especially this time of year. And, I really don't want
to look for a new church.

I did very little with the Black Friday sales, and the
new SharkRF OpenSpot M1KE didn't excite me. The OpenSpot
4 Pro was on sale, but I can't see getting another one
right now. Never mind it looks like I won't be able to
take that trip to Florida for Hamcation like I had wanted,
even though the psychiatrist felt "it'd do me good". All
of the financial, logistical, transportation, and other
hoops are too much to navigate any more...making any travel
more trouble than it's worth.

I released a square dance publication last night, and did
major website updating. The December 2024 issue of the QCWA
Journal is delayed until Dec. 3, as the Editor was out of
town with her family for Thanksgiving.

Due to spamming, etc., I've disabled the n5vlz@arrl.net
forwarder, but my email on QRZ is still good. ARRL's
website certificate expired over the weekend, and you
couldn't access it due to the security risk. I'll have
to get NS2B a revised deal for the PCL Net with my email.

GE Bob (NY), did you get any of that Lake Effect Snow?? >>>

NS2B:

Nah, it's about hour west of us. All we got thus far is a
dusting.

This year is going by way too fast - I just today got my
Christmas decorations out front - still no Christmas tree -
if I wait long enough maybe I won't need one, hihi!

Not much new to report on the ham radio front.

Spent Thanksgivng out in Syracuse. Ate plenty! which means
too much!

BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

Bob, this year has gone by too fast. The QCWA Special Event
Station is on 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters on CW, SSB, and
FT8/FT4 through 2359 UTC Dec. 7. Details are at a link at
qcwa.org

Also, Saturday is the 25th Annual Skywarn Recognition Day.

FB on the snow, Christmas stuff, and holiday food.

GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>

KX4AC:

GE All,

It has been a pretty good couple of weeks. I have been staying
mostly inside, it has gotten cold around here! Of course, for
Florida, my definition of cold is a bit different than yours.
Mornings are in the mid 50's.

I may try to head to the local weather station for Skywarn day.
I live just a mile or so away from the Melbourne FL Airport,
and the local NWS station is just down the road. They usually
set up a ham radio station and even give tours of the place.

Otherwise, I have been trying to start cleaning up and throwing
away junk in preparation for retiring in January and moving back
to Arizona. Got a little start last weekend, but there is way
more to do.

KX4AC : I guess that's about it for now. Back to net >>>

Carl, when I lived in the Miami area, winter clothes came out
below 70 degrees (hi hi). Since I don't drive or have a car
anymore, and got burned out on weather and ham radio 5 years
ago, I won't be going to the local NWS office. GL on getting
the stuff set for the retirement and move...you'll get to stay
on Standard Time year round (hi hi).

GE Rick, do you have a lot of snow up there?? >>>

VA7RBP:

Good evening Daryl and all on NET.

No snow at my QTH. Like Bob, we just had a sprinkle on Saturday
morning.

Temps have bee hovering in the low 30'sF during the day, but last
night it got down to 11F.

It has been a good couple of weeks. Week before last, we had
birthdays for two of the Grandkids. Son in Law did up a nice
dinner party for the Granddaughter. We didn't see the Grandson
as he is on the coast...sent him a cheque...

Last Wednesday, we had our Radio Club XMAS dinner at Leo's Pizza
in Nelson, and that was pretty good. I have been doing a bit of
radio play, the usual PACTOR stuff, helped somone with VARAC this
morning, and had one of the local new hams express interest in
PACKET...he was trying to get into my NODE, and had to give him
some help...good to see some interest!

Next on the agenda is getting the XMAS lights going.

I guess that's all I have, so BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

Rick, FB on the family gatherings, the radio club Christmas dinner,
decorations, and the ham related stuff. Hope you can get that ham
onto packet.

GE Bob (OK), how was your week?? >>>

KF5TVG:

GE all!

Daryl, glad you are back with us this week!

Spent a lot of time this Thanksgiving week with family and ate way
too much. Son-in-law did a deep-fried turkey, and it was really good.

Nothing much to report on radios. Ordered a few thing over the weekend
with ok prices on some Black Friday deals. Not great prices... just ok.
Nothing major, mostly microprocessor and RPi add ons.

That's all for now. BTU Daryl>>>

Bob, if I had worn the T-shirt "Of All The Things I've Lost, I Miss My
Mind The Most" when I went to the ER, then transferred to the psychiatric
ward, I'd probably still be there!! (hi hi). It was NOT my idea of a
weeks vacation, as they cut me off from all communications with the
outside world. I saw where the SharkRF OpenSpot 4 Pro is on sale, but
their new M1KE didn't excite me.

GE Tom...we're here most Monday nights except during the weeks of Easter,
Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and
New Years. Go ahead with your comments, and type >>> when done. >>>

N2UFM:

Hello to everyone on the net. This is my first time checking in.

I noticed I didnt enter my QTH. I am in Staten Island NY where it is a
chilly 32

I will just sit back and copy the net back to net >>>

N5VLZ:

Glad to have you here. It's a pretty laid back net. I'll be posting the
scribe sometime Tuesday, as I have another net to do later this evening.

That's it for round 1, back to the top for final comments.

I forgot to mention to Tom to ask if he knew Mike Sturm, KA2E, he lives
in Staten Island...but I'll get his reply when I get back to him.

Bob (NY) thanks for the use of the BBS...anything else for us?? >>>

NS2B:

Nothng more here - everyone stay warm, and have a good week - 73 >>>
