I would humbly suggest that we introduce hams to the "digital toys" of amateur radio. Things like RMS Express/Winmor, that get through even when there are no cell towers where you are at (yes, there are still places in the world, even the US where there is limited cell phone coverage). Things like FLDIGI where you can transfer files back and forth.

While I'm sure you had an interest in radio at an early age, part of it had to come from being exposed to the technology by someone. When I go to Maker Fairs and other "in" events for today's youth, very rarely do I see amateur radio being showcased, let alone showing the things that make it far from being a dinosaur.

Just my $0.02.

Hi all,

Dr. N'Yeurt is spot on, there is so very little use of Amateur Radio in the
South Pacific where it is needed most in a part of the world in times of
natural disasters, cyclones being at the top of the list. I can verify this,
during the peak of the last sunspot cycle I was chasing rare DX from K2PG and
logged no Pacific Islanders, not a single one. That's not to blame it on
propagation considering those in the log. The big question everywhere is how
can we get them interested in a dinosaur with all of today's digital toys at
their fingertips? I was one of those when I was first licensed, but one of
those rare birds interested in radio from childhood and when I got the
opportunity to put signals in the air I jumped on it. But what about the
others with no interest? Oh well.

"New Jersey, the most American of all states. It has everything from
wilderness to the Mafia. All the great things and all the worst,
like Route 22."
