Hi Vin and all,
Sorry this has nothing to do with the subject, but a correction is in order.
"the Internet Idiots killed packet!"
Let's not go back to Hank's land line lids nonsense, Internet forwarding did
NOT kill packet. I'm a survivor and having been a remote sysop of the Central
New Jersey critical node/BBS until lack of antennas made me a paper ham and
"land line lid" I know what happened start to finish.
Keeping history within limits of one bull, when trolls started driving users
away and BBSes went dark due to lack of traffic, holes were left in the radio
network and the only thing holding it together were Hanks Land Line Lids.
Even that wasn't enough, Germany due to their's being all radio fell off the
map and I lost touch with friends (e-mail no substitute because they have to
pay dearly). I contacted my fellow sysops and we tried to get around huge
areas of North America that fell off the map and restore some connectivity, a
losing battle. Then came the last nail in the coffin, three vicious and
relentless UK trolls drove everybody remaining away leaving packet in the
pitiful condition it's in today.
Footnote: Ofcom busted those three trolls but the damage was done, another
sad case of foot dragging that locks the barn door after the horse was stolen.
"New Jersey, the most American of all states. It has everything from
wilderness to the Mafia. All the great things and all the worst,
like Route 22."
