Greetings and felicitations,
This should be of interest to my fellow railfans, an important omission from
K.O.'s bull. "designing the first all-welded locomotive (in 1937)."
This was the Pennsylvania Railroad's GG-1 built in their Altoona,
Pennsylvania shops that when the Boston to Washington main now part of the
Northeast Corridor and Philidelphia to Harrisburg, PA lines were electrified
also in 1937. I used to watch trains on the heavily trafficked NEC at the
station in my home town Rahway, NJ and the GG-1 became and will always be my
favorite electric locomotive. Since information abounds, too much for here,
and 7+ pictures are one royal PITA you can learn about it and pictures abound
on the Internet. If you are reading this you have a computer, so no excuses!
(;->)
Oh, as long as I have it in my collection of ASCII drawings, here's the
steamer near and dear to my heart, an old friend you can say.
