For those living in the Central East US, have you ever been to Jim Thorpe,
Pennsylvania? I have and here's a tidbit, originally Mauch Chunk, a Native
American name to begin with and Thorpe being a Native American was not
enough, the city was renamed in his honor. For some strange reason (politics
is SO unpredictable) the name reverted to Mauch Chunk. Again it became Jim
Thorpe, they just couldn't make up their minds. (;->)
Here's a bit of irony, remember I've been there, being a railfan a friend and
fellow hobbyist went there for one of the last rides on the now defunct
Central Railroad, the legendary CNJ. His nickname appropriately The Train,
Steve was a walking encyclopedia and knew railroaders far and wide. Here's
the irony, he was Steven Thorpe, but no relation, it's a common name.
Not the CNJ but my favorite steamer I knew up close and personal while she
was still running the rails, C&O 614.
