Hi K.O. and lurkers,
"Wow! My last commercial flight was in 1985... I think I shall keep it
that way."
Afraid of getting hit by lightning or hammered into the ground by a
microburst? (;->) When a plane gets hit by lightning passengers and crew
don't even know it, the current passes harmlessly around them throught the
metal airframe and fuselage. Riding in the cockpit through a thunderstorm may
be scary to someone unfamiliar, sometimes St. Elmo's Fire, an electrical
discharge is seen on the windscreens like a dancing spider web. Microbursts
are very rare to begin with and wind shear detectors are hard to ignore.
The bottom line is flying is still the safest way to travel having the lowest
accident rate per passenger-mile so when riding Amcrash your chances of
getting killed go way up. For them four hours late is ahead of scedule so
plan your trip accordingly, in winter four days stuck in snow is not unheard
of.
The line under the bottom line is your remark was sarcasm as is my second
paragraph, however it's based on pictures of stuck Amtrak trains getting dug
out in my computer archives. (heh heh heh)
