NEWS FOR THE MIDLANDS

We start with an announcement by Solihull ARS of a new activity award 
they are running during the winter months. It starts today, Sunday 
the 27th of October, the day we put our clocks back to GMT. Called 
The Midlands Inter-Club GMT Award, it is an attempt to reverse the 
current decline in local on-air activity, primarily on our under-used

Cheltenham Amateur Radio Association announces that their next 
Foundation course will be held over the weekend of 18th and 19th of 
January 2020. The exam will be on the following Saturday, the 25th of

Now for clubs that have more than one event this week. RAF Waddington 
Amateur Radio Club is taking part in the Newark Air Museum 1940s 
weekend today. The club net is on Monday from 8pm on 145.325MHz.

The Scottish Microwave Round Table will take place in Burntisland in 
Fife next Saturday, the 2nd of November. The programme includes talks 
by Sam Jewell, G4DDK on ‘Icom IC9700: How does it measure up as a 
VHF DX transceiver?', Martin Hall, GM8IEM on ‘Constructing a 13cm 
home station around the Kuhne MKU23 G4 transverter'; Heather Lomond, 
M0HMO on ‘Beginning with GNU SDR' and Mark Hughes, GM4ISM on 
‘Microwave EME'. Other attractions include a construction
