WX4QZ:

While I'm thankful my pest problem isn't
bedbugs, I would've been more thankful if
the rat problem hadn't developed. Terminix
is supposed to be by next Monday to do more
cleaning, and set more traps. I'm a nervous
wreck in the interim.

I go to see the urologist in the morning,
a follow-up from bladder stone surgery. I
get to have the fun experiences of "turn
your head and cough", and "smile like you
enjoy it" (hi hi). I hope I don't need any
more major surgery.

I switched from Straight Talk to T-Mobile.
Wasn't using near the data limit, and the
folks at Wal-Mart were clueless. T-Mobile
has folks I can talk to locally, and I got
a free phone. The old phone, and battery,
were on their last legs. I'll save $10 to
$15 a month on it.

Threat of tornadoes tomorrow and tomorrow
night...not looking forward to that. The
holiday weekend here looks stormy, with
heavy snow to the north and northwest of
Arkansas.

Some "hams" on Facebook apparently are too
lazy to look for the file I do on the
D-Star and other nets...and they apparently
don't know how to use email. How did they
ever get on Facebook, let alone get their
license?? Too many young people today are,
in my opinion, just lazy.

The rats are worse, financially. At least I
can get financial aid on the medical expenses.
The root canal does win, pain wise, though;
although a urinary catheter isn't far behind
(no pun intended) (hi hi). I prefer that the
females do it, as they are usually more gentle.

Bob, I sent you a message on the VE deal via
Outpost...didn't get to it until just before
the net.

Remember, you are cannibalistic if you eat ham
(hi hi).

I get to dog sit a dachshund on Thursday for
a couple of friends for a few hours. 10 year
old "boss" feels the world revolves around him!!

Since the fast food places will be closed,
will try to grab something out afterwards.
Don't want to eat at home until the rats are
gone, which could be early 2020 (cussing under
breath).

N9LCF:

I have to agree with Bob...the teenagers
have no goals, and don't want to be
achievers like we used to be.

When licensed, I set a goal after realizing
the difficulty to advance in licensing,
to at least set a goal of becoming an
advanced, since there were 5 license
classes to study for. And, the code
speed of 20 words was something I was not
sure I could accomplish. But, I was quite
sure that the advanced class was within my
grasp. It was a celebration when I was able
to advance all the way to the top. It's an
even greater feelign when you have gone
above and beyond your early goals.

My last week was spent mostly getting some
new packet BBS's online for interoperability
communications. The EOC in Steuben County
Indiana came on last Thursday full time. I
am working with a club trustee in Zeeland,
Michigan, to give support while they place a
packet BBS in a hospital in their area for
interoperability data. Also, the Red Cross in
Kalamazoo, Michigan, is in the process of
programming a BBS for the Red Cross there.

It's nice to be retired and able to assist
with those projects.

Want to congratulate Rick on his family
visits. Retirement doesn't get any better
than that. Being able to visit and travel
as you do is what you worked all those
years to do.

My upcoming week will be to continue the
packet interoperability work, and try to
bring online some more new BBS's.

And, yes, I am a cannibal. I will chow down
on most any kind of meat.

VA7RBP:

This past week, just been playing around with
PACTOR-1 on the old PK-232MBX, and trying to
do a little packet on 30 meters with a bunch
of guys in California and on Vancouver Island.
My antennas just don't make the grade on 30
meters.

I tried running out 200 ft of wire again from
the corner of the house to a bush on the river
bank today, but that didn't work out too good.

I ran out of daylight to do anything more,
maybe tomorrow...

This week end was one of those whirlwind
trips to Vancouver and back. Went down on
Friday, 8 hour drive fortunately no snow,
just a few slippery sections. Saturday was
grandson's 14th birthday, so go to watch him
unbox a new bike, and enjoyed visiting with
the family. Sunday we hit the road for home,
another 8 hours drive, then off to Daughter's
place in Nelson for birthday dinner for
Granddaughter who turned 9 last Wednesday.
Good times!

But really tired... I managed to drag out the
portable packet gear when we were down on the
coast, tried to connect to Jim's MBX, but
it just wouldn't work...and I had to put
everything away really quick so as not to get
the wife riled up for me being non-social...

I forgot to mention that I got tired of
exchanging cables at the back of the radio and
rebuilt my soundcard interface to include a
switched input from the PK-232MBX, now all is
good, I just flip a switch to change gear.

VE7TCP:

Got a phone call at an inopportune time.
I think the same thing happened the last
time I tried to check inhere.

I did get a message Rick left on my PBBS,
but that was only once he'd got home.
Ironically, the packet repeater was
working great at that time, and he
connected in while my TNC was in the
moddle of spending an hour catching up
on downloading bulletins from a local BBS.
So, from almost nothing all day, to handling
two connections at once at night, whee!!

Normally, I've been checking in here from
work, because I am still there at 5pm
Mondays (the kids are with their Mom),
but this week, I'm at home because I had
a root canal done today, and by the time
they were done, it was too late to bother
going back to work. So, I'm sitting here
feeling a bit like I've been punched in
the face, but not too bad. Hoping that the
toothache pain will now be gone for good
once this heals.

KF5JRV:

Spent the weekend pouring a walkway from
thehouse to Jackie's greenhouse. 22 bags
of Quikrete trowled with a shovel. It
came out looking very well. Just in time,
too. It is supposed to rain from tomorrow
night until the weekend.

Everyone at the store getting the chainsaw
ready to cut wood.

I hope Thanksgiving to put up a 40m dipole
and get set for winter, if it doesn't rain
too hard, that is.

Jackie is starting to plan for next growing
season. The catalogs are coming in every day.

I think she has some lettuce planted now. The
main season starts in February to get plants
for spring planting.

KC9VYU:

I've had a busy week at work with some travel
required. I'm happy to be home this week, and
feeling blessed with friends and family.

Our oldest daughter is expecting with our
third grandchild. So, we are very thankful
and praying for his/her development and health.

Had success on the Home To Do list this week -
put up some indirect lighting that has been
on the list for about 2 years (even though we
already had the parts!). Feels good to get
that done!

I've been testing out using docker containers
on my Raspberry Pi and hope to use it for
packet in the future. Just need more free
time to play.
