WX4QZ:
Tornado season has been busy for much of Tornado and Dixie Alley so far this
spring...thankfully, no damage here...but with all that I've experienced over
the years, weather wise...I get very nervous this time of year. The hurricane
season looks to be as busy as last year, if not more.
A nice black pastor and his friend did an excellent job on my yard last week.
It has been so wet lately from all the rain, that he's way behind. But, they
cleaned up the yard, cut up a bunch of branches, etc., and mowed everything.
It cost a bit, but it'll keep the Code Enforcement folks off my back. I will
have them come by every few weeks to do the lawn. The Terminix guy will stop
back by with a special chemical to kill all the ivy on the lawn...sometimes,
vermin like to make their nests in that.
Thankfully, I didn't have to pay any income tax on the annuity my brother and
I got over a year after our Mom passed away. But, the big problem now is
waiting for the insurance company to approve the claim...so they can start
rebuilding the bathrooms, after they got flooded by an overflowing toilet
tank last month. I still have one working toilet, and the kitchen sink for
washing my hands (the kitchen table is now my medicine cabinet). Otherwise,
there are no sinks or cabinets in the bathrooms, and stuff is in the Jacuzzi
tub/shower area...so it's birdbath time.
I got my first COVID-19 shot (Pfizer) on April 2...the second one is on
April 23...so, I should be good to go by mid-May. I've heard that there
is a variant that can get past the Pfizer shot...but I look at it like
a flu shot...if I get COVID-19, it won't be as severe as it would be
otherwise. I've postponed several medical procedures, unless in an
emergency, until late May or early June...until I can have the COVID-19
stuff behind me. Arkansas lifted its mask mandate in late May, and opened
up shots to Arkansans 16 and older. Some areas still require the mask
mandate, though; and the barbershops still won't do beard or moustache
trimming (I hate doing my own). I have to think of the redneck COVID-19
test...if you can smell and taste the wine, you don't have COVID-19...
repeat the test as often as needed (hi hi).
I've been doing a lot of work on my computer bulletin board system (BBS),
with message networks and file areas. It's not difficult, but it is
tedious. Sitting at the computer for long periods of time for BBS work,
or ham radio nets, is hard on me physically...both on my eyes...and for
sitting so long in the chair.
T-Mobile Home Internet is finally available in my area, so by this time
next week, I'm looking at disconnecting Xfinity. I don't watch the TV,
but have been paying $95 a month for 200 Mbps download. The T-Mobile has
Wi-Fi and 25 Mbps download, but it's $35 a month cheaper...which will
save me $420 a year. Being over 55, I get their Magenta 55 Package for
$35 a month for talk and text. That $35 a month will buy nearly 2 tanks
of gas...one local dealer has a special on Monday where you get the
mid-grade gas at the price of regular.
I'm still waiting on the title to the original car I bought after the
wreck 3 months ago. I traded it for a different one, but the winter
storm in February messed everything up...it might be May before it
shows up. I have the title for the replacement car, but the State of
Arkansas and/or the Postal Service is working in low gear. The car
dealership can't sell that other car without it, but it's out of my
hands right now. I think that only one person is handling vehicle
titles for all 75 counties.
I have to get a square dance publication out on Thursday, but as
usual, everyone waits until the last minute to send things in. I'm
still working on possibly starting ham radio license exams going
again at the local college campus.
I talked to Jim (not Rick, but his call escapes me) via Winlink
email. He has been very busy, and I told him just get in when you
can.
I do all my gardening at Kroger (hi hi). When we lived in Florida,
my Dad had hens that laid eggs. When they quit laying eggs, he'd
wring their necks, and my Mom would cook up chicken and dumplings
for dinner. I think of the meme where the 2 ladies are talking,
and one says that "when Henrietta stops laying eggs, we'll kill
her and eat her". So, you see the chicken at the grocery store,
and the cashier asks "Another 2 dozen eggs, Henrietta??"....with
the caption "That's why the chicken crossed the road!!" (hi hi).
It was in the 80s here today, Bob...it won't get out of the 60s
the rest of the week. Not cold enough to frost, but it'll be a
shock.
Jackie has the biggest green thumb of anyone I've ever seen.
Hope you get a good amount of crops this year.
There is a new version of BlueDV for Windows....I'll use it
on the D-Star Nets this week. Heard they are asking $660 for
that Icom 52 dual band D-Star HT -- too rich for my blood.
Everyone have a good week...we'll get the scribe posted shortly
after the net. B2U Bob, and have a Happy Birthday next week. >>>

KF5JRV:
Jackie is in the chicken business big time. We got 9 eggs today.
Her and my stepson are in the process of getting the raised beds
ready for peppers and tomatoes.
Work is busy with seed and weed spray. Although garden seed is
limited and varieties are hard to get

Daryl, Cars and DMV's are nothing but trouble. I think the Feds
are the same way. I sent my passport in for renewal a couple
months ago. Starting to think I'll never see it again.
That's a funny meme! We had similar weather over the weekend -
Saturday was near 80 and sunny - yesterday was 50s and rain, same
today. Tomorrow might be sunny, but only 60s.
I was wondering that radio was going to go for. Yep, too rich for
me, too. I'll keep my trusty old IC-80AD.
Thanks for the Birthday wishes - it's next Monday - so I'll be here
for it!
Scott, Wow, you guys will be in the egg business soon!
My roses are coming on strong - seems a little early for us I think. I'm
always paranoid we'll frost as late as mid-May. But I'm thinking this is
an early year so I'm pondering getting some tomatoes out myself.
