WX4QZ (Replies toward the bottom):
GE All, and welcome to the May 2, 2022 PCL Net.
The last Monday of this month, May 30, is Memorial
Day, so the PCL Net will NOT meet that night. Bob
will send out a reminder message as it gets closer.
I took another turn for the nurse with an ER trip
last Thursday. My legs and ankles had swollen up,
and with congestive heart failure, I didn't want
to take a chance.
The EKG showed atrial fibrillation, but the heart
rate was 69. The chest X-ray showed no fluid around
the heart, and the ultrasound from the groin down
on both legs showed no blood clots (DVT). The cause
was "Baker's Cyst" or "water on the knee"...caused
by arthritis and gout causing fluid to build up in
the knees. I see my PCP on Wednesday...and have a
consultation for cardiac ablation surgery on May 25;
with the outpatient procedure possibly in early June.
That should get rid of the heart rate "running like
a motorboat, and sounding like a weedeater" (and I
didn't have too much Starbucks Coffee, like Peanut
and Jeff Dunham did (hi hi)).
We're in a stormy weather pattern right now, with
nearly nonstop thunderstorm days...and my area is
now under a Tornado Watch until 11pm. Thursday may
be a very violent weather day, but it's that time
of year. I will get the scribe uploaded as soon as
possible. At least Mother's Day Weekend looks dry
in my area, but it'll be hot and humid.
The FCC ULS is still screwed up with that $35 fee
for a new or renewed license or vanity callsign
change, but the changes of name, email, or mailing
address, or sequential callsign change requests,
are going through, as they're free. At least mine
doesn't renew until late March, 2029.
The home appliance insurance came due, but I dropped
all but the washer, dryer, refrigerator, and freezer.
It'll save $480 a year, and I can pay $50 a month.
That's a little easier to swallow. I don't use the
TV, stove, stereos, dishwasher, or other items...plus
have another insurance on the water heater, and use
a smaller microwave oven, that I can replace for
around $100 at Wal-Mart, if necessary.
My HMO arranged delivery of 14 microwave heart and
diabetic healthy dinners on Saturday...I'll start
eating them on Tuesday...as I can't afford to eat
out that much.
I won't be going outside Pulaski County, and won't
drive after dark anymore. I have suspect glaucoma,
but vehicle headlights are giving me fits during
the day. Yet, I would rather keep the car, if I can.
The car battery ran down last week, and I had to call
AAA Premier to get a jump start...then I had to drive
it on the area Interstates for 30 minutes to charge
up the battery. Darn trucks about ran me off the
road...it seems that nobody obeys the speed limits.

NS2B:
Good evening all!
My week was ok - started working on my garden patch.
I have watermelon, cantelope, and sweet peppers started.
I'll be getting some tomato plants soon.
Daryl, I understand your plight. My son just spent Friday
and Saturday in the hospital getting a new pacemaker
installed. He has both afib and vtac at times.
Awhile back I bought a new (to me) D-Star radio.
I recently discovered it will send/receive pictures
and I've found a net on REF055D devoted to that. All
I needed was an Android device to run the software -
so I picked up a Samsung tablet at Wallymart over the
weekend. I'm ready to go! Looking forward to the next
net!
Thanks Charley - I think he's going to be ok.
Yeah, that Jackie - I need to wander by their place one
day and check out the greenhouse and raised beds she has.

VA7RBP:
Good evening Daryl, Bob, Charley and anyone else.
Well, we were supposed to be off on vacation on Vancouver
Island this week, but that got cancelled. My buddy on
the island got sick suddenly, so we opted for putting
the get-together off until sometime in June...just to
be safe.
I spent most of last week reading, wiped out a trilogy
that was the basis for a movie "Walking Chaos"....a
sci-fi, that seemed interesting, so I found all the
books at the library and read them all. I also worked
a bit on my projects, got my ALLSTARLINK node running
(radio-less) on an old laptop.
Painted the main bathroom...she's been bugging me to
do it for the past six year.
We still haven't done anything with the garden, maybe
in a couple of weeks...the temps are still getting down
to freezing at night, but during the day they are like
today, around 70F. The only thing going on in the garden
is the rhubarb, which is coming along nicely.
Ya...way toooo many projects. I get distracted by shiny
new things (like a squirrel) and off I go.
I've got my eye on a teensy Robust Packet modem....
Arlene says NO...not until I finish the painting. and
my other projects.

Bob, that net is on Wednesday at 9:30pm Eastern, I
believe. Their backup is REF 72D, I think. They get
quite a few folks on there.
I hope your son does OK with that pacemaker...I hope
I don't end up needing one.
Rick, bummer on the trip cancellation, but you can't
take a chance with illness...hope you can get that
rescheduled.
I need to prep an info deal on a test session 2 weeks
from Saturday...will do that after the storms clear
out. Otherwise, except for my nets, and some Excel
Spreadsheet Net List Updates, I did nothing, radio
wise. I was never a bookworm...my late XYL and my
late Mom were, though.
Charley, keep an eye on the weather. I saw where
some storm chasers were killed the other day, in
getting hit by a truck, after intercepting tornadoes.
No problem getting in late...just get here when you
can.
I think the gardeners here can finally start planting.
I'm sorry that Scott isn't here tonight to tell us how
Jackie is doing with her stuff.
Go to the hyperlink on my QRZ bio for Excel Spreadsheets
of selected D-Star, Echolink, and D-Rats nets, with
other files related to ham radio.
I saw where Xenia this year is the 70th year for
Hamvention. No way I can go, though.
