The last Monday of this month, May 30, is Memorial
Day, so the PCL Net will NOT meet that night. Bob
will send out a reminder message as it gets closer.
Today was the first day of early voting for the May
primary election in Arkansas. The first site I went
to was crowded, so I did some other errands...the
second site had their rush this morning, so I was
able to walk in, show my ID, vote, and leave. I
don't have to worry about that again until October.
If the political folks call, I can tell them "I've
already voted...goodbye!!" (hi hi). It reminds me
of the deal that said "Political Season -- does
that mean we can shoot them??" -- a firing squad
is too good for them (hi hi).
We're finally drying out, but we're heating up.
A chance of storms returns toward the end of the
week into early next week, though. Highs are in
the 90s, and it sure feels warmer than that.
I'm scheduled to do a license exam session on May
21...and, I just saw a note on the ARRL website,
that the FCC has finally fixed the glitch, so there
will be a heck of a backlog of license applications
for new and renewed licenses, and callsign change
requests. The folks who paid the $35 for these are
glad the wait is over!!
It's a chore to find cheap gasoline...I still
put $40 in the tank today, but I was able to
get 30 cents a gallon off at the one place
where I filled up. I think I can stay home until
the weekend...but I'm still up early to do the
daily vital signs...and get a power nap in the
afternoon. I didn't get that nap today, so I'll
be ready for bed after the RPi net on the QuadNet
Array tonight.
Hopefully, no more medical deals until I see the
EP doctor for the consulation on the cardiac
ablation surgery on May 25...my guess is that
the surgery will be in June. The podiatrist
trimmed the toenails (I can't squeeze the
clippers due to the arthritis), and she said
the swelling in my legs and feet was minimal.
I'm getting back into the choir at the church
I joined 3 months ago...it's hard to stand in
one spot for very long, plus I can't make the
rehearsals on Sunday afternoon...but my musical
ability to sight read compensates for me to just
show up on Sunday. I'm glad I had the walker with
me. But, my days of doing cantatas are over. At
least they have a lift elevator to get into the
choir loft, and let me sit on the front row.

Good evening all!
Well it was busy week all in all.
I think I mentioned I had got interested in the
D-Star picture net and I had ordered an Android
tablet to run the software. That came, and I
started testing using an Echo reflector. Wasn't
working for a hoot - all my echo'd pics for
missing LOTs of blocks - in the venacular, they
would call them P3 or worse. I finally figured
out the Pi Zero that runs my D-Star hotspot didn't
have enough guts for pictures - so I switched the
radio board on to a Pi-3B+ - works perfect now!
Spent Saturday down at the race track flagging the
AER Endurance race. First race of the year for me -
it was a good day.
Woke up Sunday to a dead node. I have not had a
hard drive fail like that in a long time - I've
had plenty that have given me advance warning and
I've heeded it - but this one was just dead, kaput!
While fighting with the old computer to get it
upgraded to Win10 discovered I had a bad ethernet
cable - no idea how long that had been going on.
But all seems better now.
I had got my backups straightened out - 6AM every
morning, the good stuff gets copied out to my NAS.
As long as that's working I'll never need it - that's
the rules of backups...
And now I'm waiting for another week to pass so I
can plant my garden. Watermelon, cantelope, and
sweet pepper plants are all started and ready to
go - I just need to go pick up some tomato plants
when planting day happens.
Good luck with Allstar node, Rick - I looked at that
software once and it seemed really complicated!
Speaking of critters eating the garden - last year,
my garden was completely ruined by deer or rabbits
thinking it was their personal buffet - this year
I have a raised bed with a zippered net around it.

Good evening Daryl and Bob and anyone else watching
on the NET.
The week went by so fast I can't remember if I did
anything else besides trying to get this ALLSTARLINK
going.
FB Bob on getting the node back to operational status!
It has been raining here all week, we even have snowfall
warnings for the mountain passes...and I just swapped
off my snow tires...oh well, we don't have any plans to
go anywhere where there's snow.
I put together the Masters Communications RL-20 interface
kit last week, for the ALLSTARLINK node, now I'm fighting
with the software configuration to make it work.
Fuel prices are now totally ridiculous... $1.96 / Liter
or $7.42 / US gal.
All we have growing in the garden right now is chives and
rhubarb, too wet out there to do any gardening.
The marmots are back...eating the tops off the chives, and
exploring our back deck. Arlene bangs on the living room
window, and they give her the gears, before taking off.
Yes, ALLSTAR is based on the Asterisk PBX software...my head
hurts from trying to look stuff up.
So far, I haven't delved into the mysteries of DSTAR or those
other modes...although I did sit in on a presentation for
DVMM about 7 years ago...I guess it didn't get my interest
going at the time.

Bob, FB on the picture net (I understand that's a very
popilar net), plus the races, and the garden. With the
backups, maybe we can get Rick to build us a reverse
switch...what I look for every time I do mine (hi hi).
I'm sorry Scott and Jackie weren't here tonight, as I've
wondered how they're garden/greenhouse is doing.
Rick, you had a rough week with the weather, the software,
the fuel prices, and the garden.
I don't know about setting up D-Star with a rig, but I've
done it with the BlueDV program and the ThumbDV; but you
have to do it under Windows 10, due to sound card issues
with Windows 11. I'll be going to the other computer
shortly for the RPi Net.
