Much needed rain and a few storms will arrive
here this evening through Tuesday...and again
Friday into Saturday. Fire danger is high to
extreme, with all but 8 counties under burn
bans. I hope I can finish my nets tonight
before I have pull the plug overnight...but,
I'm watching the radar closely.
The last mosquito treatment until late March
was done today...I'll be glad when the cold
gets rid of the insects. I'm working to stretch
out the food until Nov. 3, when the next check
for disability arrives.
No more license exams for my VE Team until
early March...interest won't pick up again
until just before the General Class Question
Pool changes next July.
I sent off my absentee voting application
last week...I hope to mail it back late
this week, where I don't have to stand in
line on Nov. 8. Nearly 5800 folks early
voted in Pulaski County today, the first
day of early voting.
The time change back to Standard Time is a
week from Sunday, Nov. 6. The time for this
net, and most other nets, won't change. Note
that we won't meet on Nov. 21 for Thanksgiving
Week, nor Dec. 26 or Jan. 1 for Christmas and
New Years.

This week seemed extraordinarily busy - but I
can't remember from what?
The Corvette is washed and about ready to go
under the cover for the winter.
And I continue to be amazed with the "mobile
antenna dipoles" I put together after listening
to Ricks success stories. Should've done that
long ago.
Our local town has a rifle range operated by a
local conservation league - for years I've
threatened to go join - I did that last week -
got my certification to use the range - now
planning to take my black powder rifle down there
and make some smoke if I ever find time!
The foliage colors in Western NY this year are
amazing. Colors run hot and cold here - some years
good, some years not so much - this year probably
the best I've ever seen.
Charley's right - I have one of those Joplin
launchers - works good - 10, 12 pumps on a bicycle
pump, and I can get over just about any tree.

Good evening Daryl and all on the net.
Current temp here is 06C / 43F, raining, and we have
our first snow halfway down the mountains, and it
looks like solid rain forecast for the next week.
This last week went by way too fast, I took my IC-756
ProIII out of service to figure out where I might be
getting distortion on transmit, and put the FT-890
on-line...still trying to set up my audio levels for
it.
Assisted my friend VE7ASS getting his BPQ system running;
he decided to switch from jnos to BPQ.
Took the Honda in for a service yesterday, so it's all
set for the winter.
Been playing with SSTV again on 20M. There's a bit of
activity there, and interesting pix come in.
On the medical front, I go in tomorrow morning for another
ultra-sound, guess they're still trying to find some stones.
Bob (NY), glad the mobile dipoles are working for you. I
have someone else going to try them.
The FT-890 does not want to tune them up, so I have been
using the end fed on all the HF bands.
Need to make up a wire harness for the LDG external tuner
that will work with the FT-890.
FB on the black power rifle...my dad had a Hasqvarna 50
cal ball plack power rifle that he liked.
Bob (OK) sling shot works too, but I ended up using a 2 oz
weight and casting with my fishing rod.
Mind you, the tree was only about 30 ft tall...

No tacos and no local get together here tonight, so you
got me!
It rained most of the day today, and expecting more
tomorrow, so the dry patch we were in is over for awhile.
Got an arborist's weight and line to try my hand at throwing
a line into a tree for an antenna. Never tried it, so it's
time to give it a go.
My OK State cowboys beat Texas Saturday and made it back
into the top 10. We won't talk about xyl's Sooners who are
in the dumpster.
I'm trying to wrap up WAS on 12m. Have 48 and just need
"locals" AR and KS. Yes, it's FT8 so it's not "real" radio,
but still fun.
Good to be here tonight. Thanks all for the recommendations
about the Joplin Launchers. I saw them at the 4state qrp
meet in Branson pre-pandemic, and should have grabbed on then.

Probably back MO next Monday then going to Mexico

or can make your own, they work well
Daryl hope Branson area gets rain, afaik still extremely
dry there

after all these years. K.O. and Billie loved the net and
everyone on it.
OK Bob, after return from Mexico if you still need AR on
ft8 could try from my mobile. Easy drive across state line.

Bob (OK), GL on getting WAS. I went to OzarkCon in Branson
several years ago, while K.O. (N0KFQ), and Billie (KB0WSA)
were still with us, and the BBS was from their place...I
even got to see their shack. Real nice folks...they are
sorely missed.

It's raining in Branson according to the radar, and we're
supposed to get rain and storms here overnight, and more
rain by the end of the week.
