WX4QZ:
A reminder that tonight is the final PCL Net
for 2022 -- we're QRT for Christmas and New
Year's weeks, with the two Mondays of Dec.
26 and Jan. 2, respectively. Our first net
in 2023 will be on Jan. 9. We wish everyone
a happy holiday season. Several other nets
are cancelling for the holidays...check with
the various net control stations for updates.
Santa isn't coming by here...I told him
"Define Naughty" (hi hi). However, with the
holiday food this time of year, we identify
ourselves as "trans-slender" and "skinny" --
but we have to build up insulation for the
winter to keep warm (hi hi).
Speaking of which...someone forgot to finish
weatherstripping the Canadian Border (hi hi),
as the Arctic Polar Express will highball
through here on Thursday, with plunging
temperatures and brutal wind chills. Once we
go below freezing Thursday afternoon, we may
not get back above freezing until after
Christmas. It'll be over 60 degrees colder
here on Sunday than it was a year ago!!
They are strongly warning folks to protect
plants, pets, and pipes...to dress for the
bitter cold, and to stay off of any ponds,
as the ice likely won't support any weight.
It's supposed to moderate after Christmas,
but I doubt we're done with winter cold and
storms as of yet. This storm will bring
blizzard conditions to the Ohio Valley, the
mid-Atlantic and New England for the holiday
weekend...not a good time to travel. With
limited funds, I'm not going out again until
next year (Jan. 3), when I get my next
disability payment. I don't want to warm up
too quick, as it could start the 2023 tornado
season early.
I now take my blood pressure 2 hours after a
meal, when I take my medication...it's much
better on the readings now (normally done in
the morning). Steve, KC9SIO, had an illness
attack related to hypertension on the KB0ZSG
International D-Star Net last night, and I
had to take over for him. Paul, K9PTF (a
retired paramedic), myself, and other hams
told him that "don't try to be the hero; as
soon as you think something's wrong, bail
out on the net, and call 911". I did that a
week ago last Friday...health is far more
important than doing a net. I will be doing
that net Christmas Night for Steve...it's
the longest running net on D-Star.
I understand the HF bands have been opening
up lately...maybe the solar cycle is finally
going to cooperate.

NS2B:
GE All!
Well, it sorta felt like a week of vacation...
It hasn't sunk in yet that it'll be like this
"forever" now!! I guess it'll be ok!!
I saw that weather coming down from up north -
they say it's going to be below freezing all
the way down to Orlando! I guess it is winter.
Speaking of DStar - I've been camped on 55D for
the last few days just copying pictures and
people make random transmissions. Normally, 55D
is riddled with packet loss for me - so picture
reception sometimes isn't the greatest - I got
home tonight to find a whole stack of 100% pics
from UK hams in my receive history - things are
looking up there!
Been playing around with random HF stations on
Winlink - I think you're right - things have
been pretty good the last few days.
Still haven't decided what I want for Christmas -
I better make up my mind soon or I won't have it
in time for Christmas! hihi
Everyone stay warm - Bob, hope you have good wx
on your cruise - it'll be fun!
Everyone have a good Christmas and New Years! 73!!

VA7RBP:
Good evening Daryl and all on the net.
The past week was pretty slow. The cold temps
have been keeping me indoors, it's currently 11F
and expected to drop to 7F tonight, and we are
expecting some snow again overnight.
I've been listening for Robust Packet signals on
30M, 20M, and 10M most of the week...not hearing
much, because most of the activity is back east.
I usually participate in an Olivia 16/1K net on
3598 USB at 0400Z on week nights, but the past
week or so, I have not heard anything.
I've mostly been reading and watching TV. Today
is our youngest Grandaughter's 10th birthday, but
we were told to stay away due to Grandaughter #2
having a fever. So, we'll have to wait for
Christmas dinner to give her the birthday gift,
and the Christmas gift as well.
I looked up the ODROID N2 - 2GB version is C$198
and the 4GB version is C$320...
Well that's all I have. Everyone have a great
Christmas and New Years, stay well, and safe.
73 until the New Year!

KF5TVG:
Yep, waaay to cold, plus most of the folks are out
doing last minute shopping.
Not much radio stuff this week, but did get state
#49 (AR) last night on 12m FT8 for worked all
states. If she confirms and I someday get the last
state I need (KS of all things), then I'll have WAS
on all bands from 10 to 80.
I've been tinkering with an alternative to raspberry
pi 4. It's a small single board computer called
odroid N2+. Unlike RPi 4, you can actually get one
and on Amazon even. It's not identical, so you have
to download a slightly different version of Linux.
The chip is slightly faster than a RPi4, and it has
a massive heat sink, so less likely to throttle due
to heat.
We're going on a short cruise over the holidays with
the kids and 6 grandkids (ages 2-12) so please pray
for me!!
Many thanks to Daryl and Bob, especially, for providing
the net again for another year. Hope all here tonight
have a great Christmas and safe New Year. See you guys
next year! 73!!

Replies from WX4QZ:
Bob (NY), I was in Miami when it snowed in 1977...nearly
the entire state citrus crop was wiped out that year.
I'm sure the farmers are keeping the smudge pots going,
and the tourists thought they could get away from the
cold in Florida!!
On the D-Star Picture Net, it's on Wednesday, at 9:30pm
Eastern Time...lots of pictures on that net on REF 55D.
Rick and Bob (OK), I'll pass that ODROID info on the
HotSpot RPi SBC and ZumSpot Net later this evening.
Rick, the hospitals and ER's are full with cases of the
flu and RSV...hope the granddaughter gets better soon.
Bob (OK), I'll pass the WAS info to the Kansas Chapter
of QCWA, and see if I can get someone there to work you
on FT8 for WAS.
Enjoy the quality time with the family.
I guess we lost Charley...sorry he didn't make it back.
It's our pleasure to do the net...and we'll see
everyone next year.
