- TARC does the John Moyle Field Day
Happening from Friday morning 17th to Sunday lunch 19th March 2022 at
the North Queensland Motor Sports Inc. Radio Precinct,
245 Mafeking Road Millchester via Charters Towers.
Portable operation is the go so make sure you bring plenty of batteries
and whisper quiet generators if you can.
Site Stats – 20.078256S 146.321104E Grid QG39DW81NF
The site is a truly portable one that will test your preparedness to set up
at a location where all facilities have been disrupted by a disaster event.
You will need to bring your own food, water, toilet facilities, power, shelter, sleeping and seating amenities.

To get there – make your way to Charters Towers and get to the intersection of the Charters Towers Bypass,
Gill Street and Millchester Road. Turn into Millchester Road, which changes name to Broughton Road along the way
and proceed 4.4km to the intersection of Broughton Road and Mafeking Road (near Hawkins Transport).
Turn Left into Mafeking Road and proceed 1km to where the sealed section turns to unsealed.
Continue on, but more carefully, for another 800metres passing Youngs Fossicking Area to the left then Veer Left
when you come to the fork (going right takes you to the Kentucky Chicken Farm).
Continue along Mafeking Road for another 900metres to the top of the rise and turn left into the Motorsports Complex.
Proceed slowly along the track for another 400 metres and Turn Right into the NQMS Radio Precinct.

Itâ€Ös an 8km trip into town for provisions and take-aways plus there is good mobile and data services from
Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone via Towers Hill.
It is planned to be operational on all HF bands (except WARC), 6m, 2m and 70cm during the
entire 24hours of the contest using a combination of wire antennas for HF and some steerable beams
shipped up from Townsville for VHF and UHF bands.
Operating will be mainly voice modes although ogâ€Ös morse claw might be unleashed onto the
unsuspecting radio frequency spectrum without any prior warning (like last year).
Logging for the event will be done by operators using a 12V powered netbook running the last version of VKCL,
there will be lots of antennae lofting and tweaking, operating in a location that can be used whatever
weather is happening plus plenty of chances to kick back and socialise.

Hope to see you there - come rain or shine !

- WICEN >> since 1946 << -
- WICEN NQ >> since 1971 << -
- Curly Wind Season is about to start this year.
Have you checked your shack and your antenna to see how they will go during the wet season ?
Its always a good time to make stock up, charge batteries and get ready for action !
Get on air - scare the spiders and lizards out of the rig and make sure your transciever works.

- WICEN NET
WICEN operators in Queensland hold a net every Sunday
The nets happen on
14183kHz from 8-00am (2200UTC)
7105kHz +/- QRM from 8-30am (2230UTC)

The net calls in regular stations and then invites new stations to call in.
If conditions are poor on 7MHz, net control might move to around 3600kHz
depending on how pliable the net operators are.
Mix it with other WICEN ops and call in on the net !!
