WX4QZ:

A reminder that 2 weeks from tonight, the PCL
Net will take the night OFF, in observance of
the Memorial Day Holiday. Please take time to
note the true meaning of the day...it's not
just for picnics, and other things.

I found out I could get transportation to/from
medical appointments via my Medicare Insurance,
which was much cheaper than doing Lyft. The
problem resulted when I called, and they first
put me through an automated system, and I ended
up getting dropped. When I called back (they
require 3 business days advance notice), it was
not in the system, so I set up the deal. The
problem was that I got double booked with the
appointment earlier today. The next time I have
to deal with them, I will talk to a real person,
instead of automation, or AI. They're also going
to put AI at restaurants to take your order...I
wonder how many orders they will mess up??!!

I saw my eye doctor today, and the eye pressures
were 10 and 11 (they've never been better), but
the dry corneas are increasing, which means more
eye drops, and less computer time. I'm to see my
heart doctor on Wednesday, after a run to my bank
and the Post Office Box on Tuesday. My lawn guy
will be by next week, and the much needed visit
to the podiatrist and barbershop waits until June.

I still haven't taken that online survey for ARRL
members on a potential dues increase. But, when
they changed the website a year ago, it messed up
my credentials. I've tried numerous times to get
it fixed, and what they give me won't work with
either Edge, Chrome, or Firefox. I haven't read
QST in months.

I'm waiting for some calm weather days, so I can
rebuild the registry (again!) on my Windows 11
Lenovo laptop. If I knew then what I know now, I
never would've upgraded. But, I may also wait
until my "off net days", Wednesday and Thursday,
to do it. I likely will move the BBS computer,
under Windows 10, to Linux before October, 2025,
when support for Windows 10 ends.

Hamvention is this week, but I won't be going.
Those who can go must have big bank accounts!!
The ham piggy bank looks malnourished afterwards!!

GE All!

It was a really nice week here. Dabbled a little on
HF packet and Vara HF on Winlink.

Worked on my garden and some flowers - I'm just about
ready for summer!

Good deal on finding transportation via Medicare. But
3 days notice - that seems a bit long. I realize we
generally know in advance most things - but sometimes
not!

My son's still in the hospital. Getting better - but
will likely go to rehab in a couple weeks before he
can ever come home.

Went out of Syracuse yesterday for a Mothers Day
celebration, where I proceeded to eat myself into
misery. Too much good food if there is such a thing!

Welcome Corin to the net. George, good to see you back!

K0TTR:

Thanks! Good evening everyone. My week has been okay.
Mostly been working. I got a Moblinkd recently. I've
been playing around with it and it's been fun. I got
a Raspberry Pi 4 today that I'm hoping to run a packet
node on. Perhaps some text games or an offline copy of
Wikipedia.

I'm glad packet radio is active still. It's very cool
technology, and got me back into ham radio!

Earlier you mentioned wanting to use Linux on your BBS
rig. I use Linux all the time (I'm connected to my local
packet node using it), so I'd be happy to help if you'd
like!

VA7RBP:

GE Daryl and all on the net.

We don't have any fires in this area yet, but I'm keeping
an eye on the river behind our place. There has been some
flooding in a few nearby communities, and evacuations.
The weather has been great the past week, temp was up to
85F earlier, but the clouds have rolled in. There have
been a few lightning hits around us over the last hour,
and I have the antenna disconnected.

This week, I planted some beans, lettuce, carrots, and two
tomato plants in our tiny garden planter.

It's time to get the bicycle out of the shed, and start my
daily 10 mile ride again.

I manage to get in a bit of radio play, usually some HF Packet,
PACTOR, and JS8. Yesterday, at 07:00 am PST I thought I caught
a couple of words on 6M JS8, but it might have just been random
noise...

Still working on projects in the shack...putting together some
Com-PTT interfaces to try to resolve a problem with soundcard
TNCs hogging access to the com port RTS line, and locking out
other soundcard modes...

Welcome to Corin, and George, have fun!

N2GWK:

GE all on the net! Things are doing ok here. wx is stable for
a bit we had some very high winds that caused some damage at
our repeater site but that has been rectified.

Health is good for an old man and just sitting here wondering
what project to tackle next.

Our Winlink net is doing well, and I just got the BBS back on
line.

Replies from WX4QZ:

Bob, FB on the HF work. I guess there's such a demand that
3 days notice is needed, and many places now have a very
high no show/cancellation fee, unless it's a significant
last minute emergency. Sorry to hear about your son...hope
he can get into rehab, and come home soon. I'm sure that
everyone and their brother was at the restaurants yesterday,
but I was down sick with a migraine sinus headache all day.

Corin, glad to have you with us. We're here every Monday,
except during weeks of major US holidays. Thanks for the
help with Linux...I will definitely be in touch...even
though this old dog doesn't want to learn new tricks (hi hi),
but I don't know where to begin on it.

Rick, glad you've avoided the weather issues...we still
have flooding in the region. Sounds like you're ready for
a garden salad (hi hi). I used to ride a bike 20 miles a
day 40 years ago...but I can't do that anymore!! FB on
the radio play and project work.

George, it's good to see you back again. Weather has been
crazy all over. FB on the Winlink Net and the BBS. As for
what project to tackle next, it was for me deciding what
to eat after I finish another net tonight (hi hi).
