KX4AC (Early Checkin Via Email):
Good evening all.
Since it is the first Monday of the month, I am at
the PCARS club meeting tonight. I imagine that
most of the meeting will be about last-minute
preparations for our hamfest this coming weekend.
I always look forward to that, though I always see
so many things that I wish I could buy that I wind
up buying nothing instead. It is fun, anyway, and
there is a meeting about ARISS communications that
should be interesting.
The week has been mostly uneventful. The weekend has
been pleasant. Still a bit warm in the afternoon,
but beautiful in the morning for my walk. I got
40/20/10 meter hamsticks tuned up for use in the
car. They seem to work pretty well. I had a contact
on 20M with a fellow in New Mexico. I may try to
retune the 10M hamstick to 6M, since I see we have
a 6M repeater locally.
It took me five tries to get the hamword last week,
but I finally figured it out. I am looking forward to
the new puzzle.
That's about it for now. I am hoping for good weather
for the hamfest. If it rains, the tailgate area will
be pretty empty.
73s to all. I will be back next week.

WX4QZ:
We had some storms and rain late last week, and
it was a cool, fall weekend. A warming trend is
coming up, but the cold front coming through later
this week, doesn't look to bring much rain, but it
will be in the 60s for highs and 40s for lows this
next weekend...great football weather.
I have a check for type 2 diabetes on Wednesday,
then will be changing PCP's, as my long time PCP
is retiring later this month. As long as she's
covered by United Health Care, I'm in good shape.
I prefer the females, as they tend to be gentler.
But, if she's not under UHC, I'll switch to Baptist
Health PACE in North Little Rock, and I won't have
UHC anymore, but will have some new benefits. I hate
to lose the utility allowance (it pays most of the
water and trash bill), but if I can get new doctors
all in one place, I may go for it. They also offer
transportation to/from medical appointments, and to
their facility. I'll decide on Wednesday. Speaking of
medical stuff, I'm supposed to have an outpatient
urinary tract procedure on Nov. 6 (right after the
time change back to Standard Time), so NS2B will take
the PCL Net for me that night. These twice a year time
changes drive me nuts...hard enough to navigate those
net list spreadsheets that I maintain, but I'm only
on the air for nets that I do...sked requests, and
regular net checkins are extremely rare, if at all.
As a note, we'll be off on Nov. 20 for Thanksgiving,
Dec. 25 for Christmas, and Jan. 1 for New Year's
(where has the year gone??!!). And, I saw where the
Post Office is looking to raise First Class postage
from 66 cents to 68 cents...I wonder why they don't
just raise it to 75 cents or $1?? If they do, I hate
to see what the Post Office Box renewal will cost me
next August.
With today being Columbus Day in the US, and with
Thanksgiving in Canada, I'm glad I got to the Post
Office Box Saturday, as the Post Office, etc. were
closed today. There was a shortage on Lyft drivers;
the first ride, I had to cancel, as they were sending
a high ground clearance pickup truck, that I can't
step into. With Lyft Pink, I pay $10 extra a month,
but they give me a 5% ride discount, they pick up 3
of the $5 cancellation fees per month, give a $5
discount on the next ride, then I get free delivery
with Grubhub.
Speaking of which, I got a suprise refund from one
of my medical clinics, so I splurged with Grubhub
to order from Little Caesars Pizza...two thin crust
pizzas with cheese, beef, ham (cannibal!! (hi hi))
onion, and Canadian bacon, plus two things of garlic
cheese toast. I got 3 days worth of meals out of it,
and will order some more groceries in the coming
days. At least my bank let me stay in their lobby
past closing time on Saturday, while I waited for
the Lyft driver to arrive.
I got an email from Arkansas' SEC, J.M. Rowe,
N5XFW, telling about Winlink via RF and Telnet.
I told him I use the RMS Express program, and
also noted about HamWord...plus all my other
"internet radio" operating, but my license isn't
just a sheet of paper. I know some here play that,
but I wasn't sure if one could do it via Telnet
and RMS Express. It had updates of itself with the
forms, so I got those taken care of before the net
tonight.

N3LBP:
Thanks, ge to everyone tonight on the net. Glad to

Working on my bbs tnc it just went down. Had a good
time with chapter 5 qcwa and penn wireless association
over the weekend radio daze.

setting my allstar node soon, and running my fusion net

NS2B:
GE All.
An uneventful week. Saturday, NYS RACES groups all got
together and ran a Simulated Emergency Test. They even
had RF only Winlink digi's setup, so we could checkin
via Winlink to distant EOC's. It actually worked pretty
good, I think.
Getting ready to play in the Pumpkin Patrol at the end
of the month. It's a little weird this year. We've been
plagued with interference on the ham repeaters in years
past. So this year, we're going to be issued county
radios on their trunking system. No longer ham I suppose,
but at least we can serve a function.
Went today and got my 2nd Shingles shot. Now my arm is
sore and I feel like taking a nap! hihi
Happy Birthday Bob (OK) - i'll call you in a bit chuck -
everyone have a good week - 73 >>>

KF5TVG:
GE Daryl and all on the net!
My birthday is this Wednesday, the 11th, so I got a
small 3d Printer this week. Fun to play with, and I've
printed out several toys for the grandkids. I need to
relearn a CAD packagess so I can create my own stuff!
Made a confirmed contact this last weekend with a ham
on Crete, with ft8 on 15m. My DXCC count is now 135.
Yesterday, there was an ft8 signal from the Marshall
Islands on 15m, but was unable to make contact. I was
in the Kwajalein hamshack around 1983. I wasn't a ham
yet, but I remember what an amaong pileup occurred
when one of our crew got on the air there. Brings
back a lot of good memories.
Daryl, I'll be praying your upcoming medical stuff goes
well for you.
Thanks again to you and Bob (NY) for keeping this net alive!

Replies from WX4QZ:
Chuck, bummer on the TNC failure...I do 2 nets
for the QCWA each week, their Sunflower Net on
Saturday morning, and their Digital Net on
Sunday afternoon...email me at wx4qz@arrl.net
for details. FB on the other modes and nets.
Bob (NY), I saw that the QCWA 6 meter net will
take Oct 31 (Tuesday) off for the Pumpkin Patrol
nets in their area, similar to what you're doing.
If weather isn't an issue here, I can take the
net Oct. 30, but as noted, you'll have to do it
on Nov. 6. Except for my 2 QCWA Nets this past
weekend, I was QRT...no plans to do the SET. You
can use tactical callsigns with that Pumpkin deal.
I got my shingles shot last year...having had the
chicken pox 43 years ago, that put me in the
hospital for a week, and out of college and work
for 2 months.
Bob (OK), happy early birthday. I know a ham in
Michigan who also has a 3D printer. FB on the
FT8 contact in Crete. HF conditions have been
awful lately...hopefully, they'll improve as we
head toward winter. And, thanks for the prayers
on the medical issues...it's stressful enough
just changing PCP's!!
Not sure where Rick or Scott are tonight.
