Thanks all! As Soren noted, this is definitely the beginning of a new era!
Only NJ7H will end roving, Gabe the Lunatic will live on (as long as I don?t
perish on an ice road on the way)! I do plan to activate many Alaskan and
Canadian grids in the near future, and, dare I say, UA0. Juneau is
undoubtedly remote (only access by air and sea), so for most days I?ll be
isolated to CO28, but I will no doubt make many excursions. I know at some
point in the spring I?ll be doing some simulator training in Anchorage. I?ll
definitely get around, so my northern roving is just beginning! There are
ferries and seaplanes and ASA flights leaving from Juneau every day, so I?ll
be able to get around! The terrain in Juneau itself will definitely pose a
challenge, but I?ll be doing my best to find the good spots to work from and
make sure anyone theoretically within range and capability gets Alaska and
CO28 on satellite!

It has it all.
One note: GoSatWatch seems to hold on to the first name of a satellite by
object number. Once the satellite is renamed it doesn't seem to change on
GoSatWatch unless you delete the Keps URL and put it back. Then it picks up
all the new names and removes the stale object numbers. Of course you will
need to go back through and uncheck all the unwanted birds.

Although not necessarily satellite stuff (although I?m sure a clever ham
could use transverter in/out to make it so), my father, KB7QG has moved into
a senior apartment and is giving up his ham station. I have his 3 Kenwood
TS-520s (one is a 520S) and miscellaneous Kenwood accessories that I?d like
to sell for him. I even have a 2 tube International Crystal 6 meter
converter he used back in the late 50?s. Appreciate amsat-bb for listing
this. Contact me, if interested.
BTW, he?s been the reason for all the rover trips (DN71 to DN31 and DN32 to
DN62 with an occasional DN20 to DN70) the past couple of years.

I just wanted to chime in, as well, to express my thanks for all
of the roving you have done and grid squares you've helped me
earn.? You were my first satellite QSO (as KM4RTS) and I got my
first grid square.? You also helped me get my 100th grid square
(seems fitting).? There have been many more both before and
after the 100th.? Now I hope that you will help me earn my first
grid square in Alaska!
I called you 'Rover Extraordinare'.? Now, perhaps you should be
called 'Harambe of the Yukon'!? Is that a wolf howling in the
distance or someone calling 'CQ satellite'?

Each year, ARISS provides tens of thousands of students with oppor-
tunities to learn about space technologies and space communications
through the exploration of Amateur Radio. The program provides
learning opportunities by connecting students to astronauts aboard
the International Space Station (ISS) through a partnership between
NASA, the American Radio Relay League, the Radio Amateur Satellite
Corporation and other Amateur Radio organizations and worldwide
space agencies. The program?s goal is to inspire students worldwide,
to pursue interests and careers in science, technology, engineering
and mathematics (STEM) through Amateur Radio.
Educators overwhelmingly report that student participation in the
ARISS program inspires an interest in STEM subjects and in STEM
careers. Ninety-two percent of educators who have participated in
the program have indicated that ARISS provided ideas for encourag-
ing student exploration, discussion, and participation, and 78
percent said that ARISS was effective in stimulating student
interest in STEM.
ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers
of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed
education plan. Students can learn about satellite communications,
wireless technology, science research conducted on the space
station, what it is like to work in space, radio science, and any
related STEM subject. Students learn to use Amateur Radio to talk
directly to an astronaut and ask their STEM-related questions.
ARISS will help educational organizations locate Amateur Radio
groups who can assist with equipment for this once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity for students.
The proposal deadline for 2018 contacts is November 15, 2017.
