An International Space Station school contact has been planned with
participants at Beaconsfield State School, Mackay, Queensland, Australia on
26 Oct. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 08:23 UTC. It is
recommended that you start listening approximately 10 minutes before this
time. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds.
The contact will be a telebridge between IR0ISS and IK1SLD. The contact
should be audible over Italy and adjacent areas. Interested parties are
invited to listen in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. The contact is expected to
be conducted in English.
Beaconsfield State School is an Education Queensland Primary School that
caters for approximately 315 children from Prep to Year six. The school is
in the northern suburbs of Mackay. The school's mission is to develop
students who are safe, respectful and responsible life-long learners,
through the implementation of School Wide Positive Behaviour Support. Our
ongoing focus for improvement in Literacy has delivered a whole school
approach to reading - Reading on the Same Page, with a focus on SCORE as a
strategy for reading comprehension, which is part of every teacher's
classroom practice when teaching Reading. Our staff use Explicit Instruction
as our signature pedagogy for teaching and learning. Our students are
involved in many sporting opportunities representing Beaconsfield,
Cumberland, Mackay, Central Queensland and Queensland in individual and team
sports. Our performing arts program provides an excellent music education
with a strong tradition of success. The school provides
instrumental music tuition in strings, brass, percussion and woodwind, with
students becoming involved in regional band competitions and instrumental
music camps.
Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows:
1. Can you see what the weather conditions are like on Earth from space?
2. Is it comfortable sleeping in space?
3. What was your dream when you were little?
4. Is it sometimes lonely in space?
5. Has there ever been a medical emergency in space?
6. How long do you stay in the space station for?
7. What is the hardest thing you have had to do in space?
8. What does Australia look like from space?
9. What are your favourite things to do in space?
10. Why did you become an astronaut?
11. What do you miss most about Earth?
12. Is space beautiful?
13. What do you eat in space?

About ARISS:
Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) is a cooperative
venture of international amateur radio societies and the space agencies that
support the International Space Station (ISS). In the United States,
sponsors are the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation (AMSAT), the American
Radio Relay League (ARRL), the Center for the Advancement of Science in
Space (CASIS) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The primary goal of ARISS is to promote exploration of science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics (STEM) topics by organizing scheduled contacts
via amateur radio between crew members aboard the ISS and students in
classrooms or informal education venues. With the help of experienced
amateur radio volunteers, ISS crews speak directly with large audiences in a
variety of public forums. Before and during these radio contacts, students,
teachers, parents, and communities learn about space, space technologies,
and amateur radio. For more informa
tion, see www.ariss.org, www.amsat.org, and www.arrl.org.
Thank you & 73,

International Space Station Astronauts are Calling CQ Students ?
ARISS-US program education proposal deadline is November 15, 2017
September 18, 2017: The Amateur Radio on the International Space
Station (ARISS) program is seeking proposals from U.S. schools,
museums, science centers and community youth organizations to host
radio contacts with an orbiting crew member aboard the International
Space Station (ISS) between July 1 and December 31, 2018.
Each year, ARISS provides tens of thousands of students with oppor-
tunities to learn about space technologies and space communications
through the exploration of Amateur Radio. The program provides
learning opportunities by connecting students to astronauts aboard
the International Space Station (ISS) through a partnership between
NASA, the American Radio Relay League, the Radio Amateur Satellite
Corporation and other Amateur Radio organizations and worldwide
space agencies. The program?s goal is to inspire students worldwide,
to pursue interests and careers in science, technology, engineering
and mathematics (STEM) through Amateur Radio.
Educators overwhelmingly report that student participation in the
ARISS program inspires an interest in STEM subjects and in STEM
careers. Ninety-two percent of educators who have participated in
the program have indicated that ARISS provided ideas for encourag-
ing student exploration, discussion, and participation, and 78
percent said that ARISS was effective in stimulating student
interest in STEM.
ARISS is looking for organizations that will draw large numbers
of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed
education plan. Students can learn about satellite communications,
wireless technology, science research conducted on the space
station, what it is like to work in space, radio science, and any
related STEM subject. Students learn to use Amateur Radio to talk
directly to an astronaut and ask their STEM-related questions.
ARISS will help educational organizations locate Amateur Radio
groups who can assist with equipment for this once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity for students.
The proposal deadline for 2018 contacts is November 15, 2017.
The ARISS website has additional details on expectations, proposal
guidelines, and the proposal form. See:

Hello
Falconsat-3 is not included in the key data set defined in Orbitron
It is contained in the AMSAT set
I tried adding in the AMSAT set to Orbitron and it does not like it
I stripped the header off the AMSAT group and did a manual import and it
worked
Its a bit of a pain now I have got Orbitron working with my SDR # program
Anyone managed to educate Orbitron as to AMSAT keps ?
Andrew

1. Open Orbitron
2. Click the Setup icon (crossed wrench and hammer)
3. Click the TLE Updater tab.
4. Click the Edit group icon next to the Group name (looks like paper with
lines)
5. In Group editor add http://www.amsat.org/tle/current/nasabare.txt and
click OK
6. Click the TLE Update icon ( globe with lightning bolt)
7. Choose nasabare.txt after clicking on Load TLE on main page.

I am still using the WXtoIMG software after probably 20 years. There is a
Yahoo
group that is very active, and I believe the software developer is still
answering
questions. Most days there is activity....

I assume that GRAB means to simply capture the file if anyone else is
downlolading it in the same footprint. But to not transmit any requests
for fills...

Hi everyone.
I've done my best to figure out how to use parts of the WiSP software for
FalconSat-3, but I've got a long way to go.
Searched online and found a few tips, but one fairly important aspect is
how to flag the files in the directory listing.
I understand "Priority" download and "Never" download, but does anyone
happen to know what "Grab" means in this context?
There are actually quite a few options availble besides those three, so if
anyone would like to share pointers on this software, I sure would
appreciate it.
