Be the first on your block to receive the new AMSAT Award. Yes, after
many years, AMSAT has a new award. Visit http://www.amsat.org
click on Services, then Awards and then the very first award on the top
(hint... it is the new one)
I have not had a chance to work up the submission sheet for it. I will
do that soon. It will make it easier to submit and check the award.
Thanks to those that gave input and guidance for the award.

Why are you awarding more points for almost any other aspect of this
award for something that has nothing to do with radio, satellites, or
operating on those?? More points for a social media post than for
operating?? Really?

It?s meant to encourage engaging with the great group of satellite
operators on social media. Too often operators find out about an activation
of a grid they need after the activation is already complete. AMSAT would
like to encourage operators try their hand at roving to new grids and also
to announce their activities to the community and then document their
experiences roving to new grids in the AMSAT Journal.
There are multiple ways to earn this award. Social media usage and Journal
articles are ways to enhance and share the experience with others, but are
not mandatory.

I think it?s great. There are already too many awards for people sitting at
their rig working every possible station they hear and too little for those
doing the hard work. A lot of rare grids were activated last year and a
large portion of these were promoted on social media. This has allowed for
so many more people to catch a rover in places that may not be active again
for years or even a lifetime. The act of roving is selfless and giving
credit to those who go out of their way to help as many people as possible
is long overdue.
Now I just need to figure out where I?m going to go for my next /mm
activation and make sure it?s worthy of writing a journal article.

Using social media to reach the most operators makes sense once folks are

Thanks for posting the statistics, JoAnne.
And it's not just the number of subscribers. The conversations and
debates that used to occur here on the BB have largely moved over to
Twitter and, most dramatically, to the AMSAT North America Facebook
group. Especially since the launch of AO-91, there's been a dramatic
increase in the amount of conversation on the Facebook group
(https://www.facebook.com/groups/7828379515/). Since November 1st (and
compared to the previous 60 day period), posts are up 124%, comments
are up 192%, and reactions are up 177%. 2,935 of the 3,747 members
have been active (in terms of at least seeing one or more posts) over
the past 60 days.

Here are the endorsements and new VUCC Satellite

through January 1, 2018.
Congratulations to all those who made the list this month!

This list was developed by comparing the ARRL .pdf
listings for December 1, 2017 and January 1, 2018. It's a visual
comparison so omissions are possible. Apologies if your
call was not mentioned. Thanks to all those who are
roving to grids that are rarely on the birds. They are
doing most of the work!
This report was the 12th in a series covering 2017. It is
time for someone else to take it over if there is any interest.
Simply download the .pdf file from the ARRL website on the first of
every month and do a comparison with the last month. Keep in mind
that these reports are not archived so if you don't download it
on the 1st, that report is gone on the 2nd of the month. The January
1, 2018 report can be downloaded at papays.com/vucc01012018.pdf (It will
stay there until mid February.)
Happy New Year.
