Second the motion on the Green Heron.? We have one here on our EME array
and have put them in around the country for antennas from Yagis with
G5500's to 3 meter dishes.? Jeff's support is excellent.? The ones we
have put in have been rock solid.

Hi Ted,
As nice as it would seem, it really isn't possible to automatically update
the DOPPLER.SQF file. The most important reason is that each station has a
different transmit and receive offset due to different RX and TX chain
frequency calibration, drift, etc. It would be possible to have a baseline
SQF file (without compensation) and a few hams do publish that.
You can manually update the Kep files yourself.

All,
As you probably know, AO-85 has had issues recently with the batteries
dropping precariously low during eclipse. We think it's likely the batteries
suffered degradation due to heat during previous periods of no eclipses.
This has made it difficult to keep the satellite available for use without
endangering the batteries. Today the nominally 3.6v pack was down to 2.8v at
the end of the eclipse. That is dangerously low.
In an effort to extend the useable life of the satellite, this evening we
turned both the IHU and the transmitter off. This ceases all transmissions,
including the beacons every two minutes in both sunlit and eclipsed parts of
the orbit. We will periodically turn the satellite back on for an orbit or
two, in order to gather telemetry. If all goes as planned, we will turn the
repeater back on during the next period of no eclipses beginning around
January 24th. In the meantime, it is important to leave AO-85 tracked in
your FoxTelem setups, in order for us to gather telemetry and keep tabs on
the situation. If you do happen to hear a Veronica beacon, or either the
normal repeater or the COR/no telemetry repeater, please let the list know,
or send me an email or message directly.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we try to make the most
of the situation. Please consider supporting the AMSAT GOLF project with
your membership, and one-time or recurring donations at

Ok, thanks....then what exactly does the 'update' button in SatPC32 accomplish

Keps are the Keplarian elements that define a satellite?s orbit and are used
to predict its location. You have to update these every few days (daily for
ISS, which reboots its orbit from time to time). You trigger the update
manually, using the Update Keps button, and specify the update source for
the keps ? the nasabare keps from AMSAT are a good choice (they include
AO-85).
The sqf file contains information that defines the operational modes of a
satellite (frequencies, tones, modulation, and so on). This info gets
entered once when the satellite is new. It might need to change if the
frequency drifts with age or if a new satellite isn?t operating as expected,
but generally remains fixed. You edit this file with a text editor.

Hasan,
There are lots of YouTube videos out there on how to get started with
ham SDR. Check those out for some good detailed information.
I have both the FuncubePro+ and the new SDRPLAY Rsp1A,? SDR units. There
is good to be said about both for satellite work, I like them both. They
both work with almost all of the SDR programs out there. For software,
SDR Console is a good one to start with. Using SDR Console from
SDR-Radio.com, these two receivers work pretty much plug and play.
For cheaper SDR sticks, RTL-SDR.COM has a new and improved unit with
metal enclosure, extra filtering and ability to go into the HF region.
All for about $22 US. It doesn't match up to the two mentioned above,
but a a cheap one. :-)

Well there is updating the Keps (not sure if you mean that). There is also
updating your personal uplink/downlink correction factors. The latter is
why SQF files are personal. I use two different rigs (and IC-9100 at home
and a IC-910H on the road), the SQF files are different.
