Interestingly the revival of the Peak Oil thread brought survivors of the
troll attack out of the wood work, hmmm.
It looks like those dollar figures for crude oil futures show inflation
meaning price is expected to essentially remain the same, an unlikely
scenario. So, are they as they appear or adjusted for inflation which would
give the price at the current rate of increase? Either way it wouldn't be the
first time traders got burned by "futures", speculation often wrong and thus
in the highest risk category.
If you haven't noticed, the topic is the most speculated, mostly guesswork
because there is no reliable or trustworthy source of information. What I can
say truthfully where standard power generation/consumption is concerned, peak
demand occurs in the evening when people come home and the lights come on.
Dusk to dawn lighting has less effect, most of the demand is home lighting
and use of appliances. People with solar power at home found out real quick
in order to "mitigate damages" such usage must be sharply curtailed.
I did mention just a little while back a solar powered town in Alaska that
not only employs panels on home roofs but a central generation and storage
facility as well. As I said before I'm a bit annoyed I don't remember the URL
of the web site where I read about it and can't refer to it, you'll just have
to trust the fact I'm a man of honor who doesn't lie or deceive. To the
point, it uses the standard HV distribution system and the really beat part
is battery technology and EXPENSE being what it is they don't rely on
batteries. Instead, storage is with a HV capacitor bank which makes perfect
sense. I wish I could remember the value in Farads, the number would astound
those who know what a huge value 1F is!
Incidentally, I belong to a group of hams on the internet where they have had
a similar discussion going on for some time. They argue too much so I just
read and stay out of it (;->) and really get a kick out of their little
battle over solar in northern latitudes. If I mention the above working
system in Alaska I just KNOW they'll slaughter me. (;->) Then Alaska being a
major oil producing state (Alaska Pipeline, Exxon Valdiz, etc.) there is an
ironic twist to the whole thing.
