A front off the West Coast will move onshore overnight Thursday moving
into the Pacific Northwest, Great Basin, and Central California by Friday
evening. The storm will produce rain and higher elevation snow over
Northern/Central California that will expand into parts of the Great Basin
and the Pacific Northwest on Thursday. Overnight Thursday, the snow will
expand into parts of the Northern/Central Rockies into Friday evening.
The snow levels will rise over California overnight Thursday as well. In
addition, there will be pockets of rain/freezing rain over some of the
interior portions of the Pacific Northwest.
Meanwhile, upper-level energy and favorable upper-level flow will aid in
producing lake effect snow downwind from the Great Lakes into parts of
Northern New England through Friday evening. Additionally, upper-level
energy moving over the Western and Central Gulf Coast States will aid in
producing rain over parts of the Southern Plains and the Lower Mississippi
Valley through Friday morning. Rain and embedded thunderstorms will also
develop over the southern portion of Florida through Friday evening.
