...Severe thunderstorms possible through the weekend across portions of
the Gulf Coast and Southeast...
...Heavy snow possible from the higher elevations of California to the
central and southern Rockies...
Scattered to widespread rain is forecast for much of the Deep South,
Southeast, Tennessee valley and the Mid-Atlantic this weekend as a series
of upper-level disturbances move overhead. A warm front is expected to
develop today across the over the Gulf states and will be a focus for
numerous showers and thunderstorms through overnight hours. In addition, a
low pressure system will spin up over the Southern Plains - spreading
showers and thunderstorms with it as it as it tracks eastward by Sunday
morning. Periods of intense rainfall maybe possible across the South and
may increase the risk for flash flooding. WPC has issued a slight risk of
excessive rainfall today for the western Gulf Coast/Lower Mississippi
valley and across the Southeast on Sunday. The Storm Prediction Center has
highlighted much of the Deep South and Southeast as having a slight to
enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms today- shifting to the Southeast
and southern Mid-Atlantic region on Sunday. Please refer to products
issued by the Storm Prediction Center for further details on the severe
weather threat.
A series of Pacific storms are forecast to move onshore; which will keep a
vast majority of the western states in a wet regime. Coastal rain and
mountain snow will increase across the region by this evening as a storm
system approaches the West Coast. Rain and mountain snow will spread along
nearly the entire West Coast tonight and into Sunday. Snow will also
spread expand into much of the interior West on Sunday. Heavy snow will be
possible in association with this system once again across the mountains
of California, as well as across portions of the Great Basin through
Sunday. Heavy rain is also expected at lower elevations of California.
Light precipitation will be possible this weekend across the northern-tier
states
as a slow-moving upper-level disturbance remains in the vicinity. A mix of
rain, snow, sleet, and freezing rain is possible today for portions of the
Upper Midwest and western Great Lakes and may linger into Sunday.
