Valid 12Z Sat Apr 8 2017 - 12Z Mon Apr 10 2017
...Low pressure system tracking eastward across the Rockies and the Plains
will bring a variety of weather impacts through the weekend...
A strong cold front will continue to track eastward across the western
U.S. and then across the central and northern Plains. This front will
interact with several shortwave disturbances aloft and a strong jet
stream, advecting abundant moisture inland from the Pacific Ocean.
Widespread snow is expected for the central and northern Rockies, Wasatch
range, and the Sierra Nevada. Winter Storm Warnings are currently in
effect for the mountains of western Wyoming and also for the Sierra, and
winter weather advisories for many of the other mountain ranges. In
addition to the valley rain and mountain snow, strong and gusty winds are
forecast with gusts in excess of 40 mph, and wind advisories are in effect
from southern California to the Four Corners region. Fire weather
conditions can be expected ahead of the front across eastern Arizona and
much of New Mexico where very dry conditions along with gusty winds will
be present.
Across the eastern U.S., temperatures will begin to slowly moderate after
the cold day on Friday. Saturday morning will be the coldest during the
short range period, with frost advisories and freeze warnings in effect
across much of the Ohio Valley and inland portions of the Mid-Atlantic. A
few lingering snow showers will be possible across parts of New England on
Saturday, but otherwise the eastern U.S. should enjoy a dry and mostly
sunny weekend.
