...Low pressure systems across both the eastern and western U.S. through
the weekend...
The area of low pressure currently over the Northeast U.S. is forecast to
continue lifting towards Quebec through Saturday. The heaviest rainfall
amounts are likely across eastern Maine through Saturday night, where 1 to
locally 3 inches of rainfall is possible. After this storm exits the
region, a secondary surge of cooler temperatures is expected by Saturday
night and will result in temperatures below average for early May from the
Great Lakes to the East Coast. Some lingering showers are also likely
after the cold front moves through the region.
Across the western U.S., a strong Pacific cold front moving inland in
association with a developing upper level low will result in unsettled
conditions from the Pacific Northwest to the Northern Rockies, with snow
for the highest mountains behind the front. Windy conditions are expected
to develop across the Intermountain West as the surface low develops
further along the front. Temperatures will be above average across much
of the western U.S. and adjacent High Plains ahead of the front.
