...Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain possible from portions of the
plains to the Mid-Atlantic...

...Well above average temperatures expected for the Pacific Northwest...

A frontal boundary extending from the southern and central plains to the
Mid-Atlantic will result in scattered to numerous showers and
thunderstorms today. An area of low pressure is forecast to develop along
the front today across the central plains. As the low moves east,
widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected by late this afternoon
and into the evening from the southern plains to the mid-Mississippi
valley. The area of thunderstorms will continue to spread east overnight
into the Ohio valley and toward the Appalachians. Strong to severe
thunderstorms as well as heavy rain are possible. The Storm Prediction
Center is forecasting a slight to moderate risk of severe thunderstorms
today and tonight - please refer to SPC's Convective Outlook products for
further details. The potential for severe thunderstorms and locally heavy
rain will linger into Sunday from much of Texas to the Ohio valley. Rain
and thunderstorms will also spread into the Northeast on Sunday as the low
pressure system lift north into Ontario.

High pressure will strengthen across the West Coast states through the
weekend, with dry conditions and well above average temperatures expected.
High temperatures will rise well into the 80s today across the interior
Pacific Northwest, with some areas reaching the lower 90s on Sunday. These
temperatures are 10 to 20 degrees above average.
