An upper-level low is forecast to deepen across the Great Lakes over the
next couple days as a surface low pressure system brings showers and
thunderstorms to much of the central and eastern U.S. Showers and
thunderstorms are expected today and tonight ahead of the associated cold
front, from the southern plains to the lower and mid Mississippi valley to
the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic. Some thunderstorms could be severe
across these areas. Please refer to products issued by the Storm
Prediction Center for further details on the severe weather threat.
Locally heavy rain is also possible. On Monday, the front will bring
numerous showers and thunderstorms to the Northeast, with scattered
showers and storms farther south across portions of the Mid-Atlantic, the
Southeast, and the southern plains.
High pressure aloft is forecast to persist across the western U.S.
promoting continued warm and generally dry conditions. A cold front will
move into the northern Rockies later today through Monday, with scattered
showers and thunderstorms possible. The hottest conditions are expected
across the interior Pacific Northwest, where high temperatures today and
Monday are forecast to be 10 to 20 degrees above average. Temperatures
will rise well into the 90s for portions of interior Washington and Oregon.
