Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
the Equator to 32N, east of 140W. The following information is
based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and
meteorological analysis.
Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
0900 UTC.
...SPECIAL FEATURES...
Hurricane Dora is centered near 18.9N 109.2W at 27/0900 UTC moving
west- northwest, or 295 degrees, at 10 kt. Estimated minimum
central pressure is 989 mb. Maximum sustained wind speed is 70 kt
with gusts to 85 kt. Scattered to numerous moderate convection
was noted within 60 nm southeast semicircle of Dora, with
scattered moderate convection noted within 30 nm northwest
semicircle. Dora will continue on a west- northwest track while
weakening over the next couple of days as the system moves over
cooler waters and into a more stable environment. Dora is
currently forecast to weaken to tropical storm intensity today,
and further weaken to a remnant low Wednesday night. Large swell
generated by Dora is expected to spread northward and affect
portions of the coast of Baja California Sur today. See latest

...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH...
The monsoon trough extends from 10N84W to 09N100W. It then
resumes from 10N110W to 09N130W. The ITCZ extends from 09N130W
to beyond 06N140W. Scattered moderate to isolated strong convection
is noted from 05N to 10N between 90W and 100W. Scattered moderate
convection was noted within 90 nm south of the monsoon trough
between 112W and 120W.
...DISCUSSION...
OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO...
Outside of the influence of Dora...gentle to moderate winds
prevail W of Baja California Norte with light to gentle winds
off the coast of SW Mexico and across the Gulf of California.
Seas are in the 1-3 ft range in the Gulf of California and 4-6
ft elsewhere. Little change is expected during the next several
days.
OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND
WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR...
Gentle to moderate SW to W winds are expected across most of the
region, except for southerly winds between Ecuador and the
Galapagos Islands. Long period SW swell propagating into the
region will build seas up to 10 ft late today, with the exception
of the lee of the Galapagos Islands.
REMAINDER OF THE AREA...
Light to gentle winds prevail from 10N to 20N between 120W and
130W, with gentle to moderate winds prevailing elsewhere. Seas
are generally 4-7 ft. Winds and seas are expected to remain
below advisory criteria through the remainder of the week.
