Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
the Equator to 32N, east of 140W. The following information is
based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and
meteorological analysis.
Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
0900 UTC.
...SPECIAL FEATURES...
The center of Tropical Storm Norma at 17/0900 UTC is near 20.5N
110.4W, or about 110 nm NNE of Socorro Island and about 145 nm S
of Cabo San Lucas Mexico, moving NNW or 345 degrees 04 knots.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb. The maximum
sustained wind speeds are 45 kt with gusts to 55 kt. Convective
precipitation: Scattered moderate to isolated strong within 120
nm S semicircle and from 75 nm to 150 nm N semicircle. Please

The center of Tropical Storm Otis at 17/0900 UTC is near 16.1N
127.4W, moving NW, 315 degrees, 02 knots. The estimated minimum
central pressure is 1001 mb. The maximum sustained wind speeds
are 45 knots with gusts to 55 knots. Convective precipitation:
Scattered to numerous strong within 120 nm SE semicircle.
Scattered moderate to isolated strong within 240 nm NE quadrant.

...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH...
The monsoon trough passes through Panama near 08N78W to 11N87W,
to a 1010 mb low pressure center that is near 09N97W, to 07N102W
and 08N110W. The monsoon trough continues from 14N129W to
11N140W. Convective precipitation: scattered moderate to
isolated strong within 300 nm to the south of the monsoon trough
from 90W eastward, from 13N to 15N between 118W and 121W, and
within 60 nm on either side of the monsoon trough from 129W
westward.
1010 mb low pressure center near 09N97W...Convective
precipitation: scattered strong within 60 nm SE quadrant and 90
nm NW quadrant. scattered moderate to isolated strong from 06N
to 12N between 93W and 103W.
Scattered to numerous strong from 15N to 17N between 94W and
96W, and from 12N to 14N between 93W and 95W, in the coastal
waters of Guatemala and Mexico. Scattered moderate to isolated
strong from 11N to 14N between 88W and 92W, in the coastal
waters from Nicaragua to Guatemala. Scattered strong from 16N to
18N between 101W and 103W, along the coast of Mexico.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO...

Gulf of California...Moderate to strong winds associated with
Tropical Storm Norma are forecast across southern parts of the
Gulf starting this afternoon/early evening, through Tuesday
night. Large southerly swells that are associated with the
cyclone already are impacting the waters that are S of 28N.
OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND
WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR...Moderate SW winds will prevail S of
the monsoon trough through Thursday. Light and gentle variable
winds will continue N of the monsoon trough through early
Tuesday. The monsoon trough then will lift to the N with
moderate to fresh SW winds prevailing.
REMAINDER OF THE AREA...
Surface anticyclonic wind flow covers the area that is from 20N
northward from 122W westward. Moderate to fresh anticyclonic
wind flow is expected elsewhere N of the monsoon trough W of
115W through Wednesday.
