Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
the Equator to 32N, east of 140W. The following information is
based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and
meteorological analysis.

Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 
0900 UTC.

...SPECIAL FEATURES...

Hurricane Otis at 18/0900 UTC: center near 18.5N 127.3W, moving 
N or 355 degrees, 05 knots. The estimated minimum central 
pressure is 976 mb. The maximum sustained wind speeds are 85 
knots with gusts to 105 knots. Convective precipitation: 
scattered moderate to strong from 20N to 23N between 111W and

Tropical Storm Norma at 18/0900 UTC: center near 21.4N 111.8W, 
or about 140 miles SW of Cabo San Lucas Mexico, moving WNW or 
285 degrees, 04 knots. The estimated minimum central pressure is 
1000 mb. The maximum sustained wind speed is 45 knots with gusts 
to 55 knots. Convective precipitation: scattered moderate to 
isolated strong within 180 nm N quadrant. Please read the latest

...TROPICAL WAVES...

A tropical wave is along 90W/91W from 22N southward, moving 
westward 10 knots. Convective precipitation: scattered to 
numerous strong within 75 nm to the NE of the line 15N98W 14N94W
13N93W 11N90W, in the coastal waters from El Salvador to Mexico.

INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... 

The monsoon trough passes through the coastal sections of Panama 
near 08N78W, to 11N91W, to 07N107W and 08N115W. It continues 
from 15N134W beyond 11N140W. Convective precipitation: SCATTERED 
MODERATE ISOLATED STRONG WITHIN 180 NM S OF TROUGH BETWEEN 93W 
AND 96W...WITHIN 300 NM N OF TROUGH BETWEEN 102W AND 105W...AND 
WITHIN 210 NM S OF TROUGH W OF 128W.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO...

Gulf of California...Moderate to strong southerly winds 
associated with Tropical Storm Norma are observed across the 
Gulf waters S OF 25N where southerly swells are expected to 
combine with the wind waves in order to create seas to 10 ft 
tonight. These southerly winds will diminish to a moderate 
breeze during the rest of the day today.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND 
WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR...

Light to gentle winds will continue N of the monsoon trough 
through early Tue when the monsoon trough will lift further 
northward. Moderate SW winds and 4 to 7 ft seas will prevail S
of the monsoon trough axis through Thu. 

REMAINDER OF THE AREA...

Please refer to the special features section for more 
information about Hurricane Otis. A NW-to-SE orientated surface 
ridge separates the areas of cyclonic wind flow that are around 
the tropical cyclones.

Long period NW swell in the form of 8 to 9 ft seas will arrive 
near 30N122W on Tuesday in the early afternoon, and continue to 
propagate southward, and be to the NW of the line from 30N118W 
to 26N120W to 26N125W to 16N125W to 16N140W early on Wednesday 
morning, and then to the NW of the line from 30N116W to 22N118W
to 15N130W to 15N140W early on Thursday morning.
