GB7CIP Recent Woes

Hi All GB7CIP Users.

As some of you already know or have noticed, that there has been
a lot of system downtime, or the system going AWOL.

The system has started hanging after running continuously for
over 70+days (uptime) since the last reboot and running GB7CIP for eight
years.

First failure was in the early hours of 10.2.2016. Looking at
the log files. Reported a lot of CPU over heating.
Sorted that out (dust).

I had difficulty trying to get the system to reboot. Unless
doing a power off and on(not very good for remote sysoping)

Loading Live Linux off CDROM seems to indicate that there are issues
with the on-board video as looses the VDU.
The VDU is switched and used between four systems.

Decided to replace the CMOS Battery (after taking photographs
of the current BIOS screen settings)

Also did the same with the backup machine as it is similar
hardware in the event I make the decision to rebuild.

Since then and 17.2.2016 03:51 there have been five overnight
hang ups. Plus others, when trying to get the system up and running.

As I am running out of 'my support time allowance' as the current
motherboard P4 CPU, PCIx2 PCIexpressx1, On-board 1GB LAN, 2GB RAM
is unreliable and not up to 'my' standards..

I have made the decision this morning (17.2.2016 09:00) to move the PCI
and PCI Express cards, hard disk to the back up machine.

When you read this, you know it is up and running
and I hope will run for eight plus years...

Well that's it.

On hands support time allowance running out for this month and next.

diary to renew NCR NOV at the end of the month)
