Hi all,
I'm sure you noticed by now whenever TODAY is incomplete on a subject I'm
familiar with I fill in the blanks, Feb. 19 is no exception
Edison is credited with inventing the phonograph and a few years ago I had
the great pleasure of listening to one courtesy of Al W2NCH. His unit and box
of cylenders were like brand new, a genuine valuable collectors' item,
needless to say I was very impressed.
What hit me was "cutting" records and "spinning wax" was attributed to
Edison, WRONG, anyone who ever had a record collection or a radio DJ knows
they're flat discs, not cylenders. The modern recording industry produced
them thanks to Emile Berliner and his Gramophone, that word led to the Grammy
Award.
