Hi Jeff and all,

It's good to see packeteers jumping on the band wagon again, better than
seeing nothing but packet robots. That having been said, the someone who
exposed me to technology at an early age was me, a long story of being born
with electrons in my blood. I took interest in radio when I got my first AM
table radio and discovered rock and roll, the parental units only listened to
the "old standards". While tuning around at night I heard distant stations
and it was ON, the rest as they say is history.

As for the subject at hand, there are a lot more digital toys than you
mentioned, to use the many digital modes all one needs is a license, radio,
antenna and a computer, easy peasy considering the oh so simple tests and the
plug n' play nature of Amateur Radio today. With no represntation at Youth
Fairs and the like it's up to us to for example take one or more of the
neighborhood kids to a good hamfest and introduce them to hams and their
wares. Better yet Field Day where they can see us engaged in disaster
communications simulation, just don't tell them it's just another ARRL
sponsored contest. (;->) I have no idea what to do with Pacific Islanders,
stirring up interest is up to them and what they have available.

"New Jersey, the most American of all states. It has everything from
wilderness to the Mafia. All the great things and all the worst,
like Route 22."
