Hi all historians,
This one gave me the chuckles, I remember the American TV commercial for
insurance that took advantage of the remnant of Skylab that crashed in
Australia. The actor who portrayed the gyrocopter pilot in Mad Max heard the
news and covered his Caravan with mattresses. Moments later the remnant
crashed down on the Caravan without damaging it. The voice over compared the
mattresses with the insurance they were selling as the bloke dressed in his
gyrocopter outfit with leather helmet and goggles stood there smiling. Those
connections to Skylab, Australia and Mad Max were rather clever, but not
clever enough to induce me into buying their insurance, I hate commercials
just as much as you.
