Hi fellow amateur historians,
The TODAY article on freed slaves returning to Africa is largely correct, but
again certain omissions make it misleading, especially to those abroad
knowing little of US history. Funding for returning them was overall woefully
inadequate and while some were reluctant to pull up stakes, a great many who
wanted to return to their homeland found themselves stranded.
At the height of the visible part of the Civil Rights Movement, visible
because what started in the early 1950s didn't become known to by far the
greatest part of America until the 1960s the issue of slavery became
anti-White "the white opressor" propaganda by radical groups shouting BURN
BABY BURN and BLACK POWER. The long hot summer, the summer of hate and civil
riots had begun. That left me wondering why the town I grew up in where we
were one big happy family had turned into a hotbed of hate and violence and
why my Black friends I had grown up with turned against me only because I'm
White. Like, what did I do to deserve such mistreatment?
Thankfully with time not only came healing, but much progress... until Trump
came along and set Civil Rights and America back on its ear. Is this any way
to make America great again? You decide, politics disgusts me and has no
place in Amateur Radio.
