To our Airmail users,

The Winlink Team gets frequent requests from Airmail users to 'Please send
me a fresh frequency list".
It is important to keep your list current, updating it at least once a month,
or before important uses, like a long voyage or emergency exercise.

A helpful tip: Please do this in Airmail, if you have not already.

1) Window>Catalog
2) Select WL2K->Global in the left column.
3) Click the request checkbox for the item UPDATE.
4) Below the list in "Request the selected bulletin:" select "request every 30
days". Select an appropriate time, Noon is good. Then click "Close".

You've just 'subscribed' to regular automatic updates to your WL2K Catalog.
Now, do the same for your Pactor frequency list:

1) Window>Catalog (be sure you are using a current catalog list!)
2) Select WL2K->Global->WL2K_RMS in the left column
3) Click the request checkbox for the item PUB_PACTOR
4) In "Request the selected bulletin:" select "request every 30 days". Select
an appropriate time, then click "Close". With this you have asked Airmail to
request a fresh list every 30 days.

In the course of your routine mail connections you'll receive periodic Catalog
updates and fresh frequency lists in your mail.
Import them into Airmail. Below you'll find Catalog item P3FREQLIST to refresh
you. Other helpful how-tos are only a few clicks away in the Catalog. Use it
well.

You might consider trying RMS Express, the client software that is up-to-date
with the global Winlink system. With it you get a ccess to no-modem-required
WINMOR protocol and WINMOR RMS stations, and the ability to elect three
"Message Pickup Stations" (MPS--basically, your favorite or best-used RMS
gateways). If the internet is out locally, regionally or even if it disappears
completely, your messages will find their way using the new Winlink Hybrid
Network to your trusted MPS gateways for you to retrieve. That's robustness
you can't get with Airmail. Plus you'll find RMS Express easy to use. The
frequency list update is only a single click in RMS-E. Give it a try. Get RMS
Express free online here:

Updating Winlink Gateway Frequencies in Airmail
(Found in WL2K_Help category, item P3FREQLIST)

It is very important to keep your client program updated with current gateway
station frequencies. Stations go on- and off-air for maintenance and repairs
often, and may not be available for connections. You won't know about that
unless you have a fairly recent frequency list loaded. RMS Express makes
keeping up-to-date easy with a single click. With older software like Airmail,
you have to do the work. Fortunately, real-time information on which stations
are on-air is available to import into Airmail.
You can obtain current frequency lists several ways.

A. Request and retrieve a fresh list from the Winlink Catalog WL2K_RMScategory,
item PUB_PACTOR).
B. Download a fresh list from this URL:
http://www2.winlink.org:8081/listings/RmsPactorListing.aspx
C. Download a fresh list from the web site tool at
http://www.winlink.org/RMSChannels

If you aren't online, use the Catalog (A above):

1. Update your Catalog List from Airmail's Message Index.
2. Click Window, Catalogs. Under "Global" open category folder WL2K_RMS.
3. Check "PUB_PACTOR" (once) to request.
4. Go back to message index and connect to an RMS gateway station to send
your request.
5. Check for new mail in a few minutes.
6. Select the newly-received request response in the inbox (turns blue.)
7. Click Airmail menu "Tools" and then "Make Frequency List."
8. Click "Text Format" tab.
9. Click "Update." This parses the list ...Calls now Red, Frequencies Blue.
10. If you wish to Add/Remove calls to your pull down list click "Freq list"
tab.
11. Click "Save" and then "OK."

If you obtain your list by downloading the text file (B or C above), simply
drag the received .txt file into the Airmail Message Index, and follow steps
6-11 above.

More information is available in the Airmail help file. Look for "frequency
lists".
