It would greatly help if more amateurs got on the air to use the RF ports
of their local packet bbs box. Instead, I see an increase in digital voice
hotspot units in their livingroom for their HT to get on DMR, D-Star, P25,
etc chatrooms instead of repeaters. The local analog repeaters in NYC are
much quieter than they used to be. For the newbies to ham radio, having an
internet port for telnet is good training ground as long as their elmer (me)
pushes them along to build up their RF stations. Maybe they will eventually
continue and set up their own Raspberry Pi packet node to help with coverage.
Only time will tell!
