Advantage in some cases is also not having to keep up a computer 24/7.
For the aprs digi's i run i only have a radio and a tiny2 with uidigi
firmware in it..

and did run a thenet x-1j4 node for some time without pc :)

This is what we do over here..
There is a big group of interested people on the packetradio nederland
facebook page.
and there is also a lot of RF action going on becouse people get interested
again reading mgs's there.

internet did bring us some nice things.
look al all the axudp links and telnet forwarding..
if i did not have internet over here i would have to close the mailbox
becouse i cannot set up a stable link to a node elsewhere.
