Hi

I am testing a little something put together to help an OM that I know who
doesnt have internet access but has packet, and anxiety. I suspect this may
be a situation for others so this little project is part of the node here
in Rijen. Its a text-based interface to the worldwide web as well as
direct access to COVID information, no faffing about.

If it turns out to work ok I will expand it, there are a couple of tech
details that may interest some but for the most part I'd like you to try
it out.

Bear in mind, it is a text conversion of HTML and as such, its a lot.
It will be slow over 1K2 connections, that is a given.

A lot of sites have headers full of menus and those do clutter many
pages but the information is there. Each link on a page has a number
next to it, and that number can be used to navigate to other pages.

The menu will ask you want to list the links so you don't have to
go blindly into the next page if you'd rather see what the link is
to.

The command to access the system is "web" on PE1RRR-7, if you are
lucky you may have RRRWWW in your node table and that will access it
directly.

Additionally, this tech uses a squid proxy so that all requests are
logged, the proxy has also been configured to use a whitelist-DNS
OpenDNS FamilyShield, to ensure at least some level of protection
against nefarious and inappropriate site requests.

It may have some bugs, its not extremely complex- its quite simple.

One thing I haven't implemented is pagination yet, whether its worth
it is an open query.

Stay safe,
73
