WX4QZ:

Daryl Stout, WX4QZ, Little Rock, Arkansas

I got the claim for the totaled out 2004
Buick LeSabre (nearly $5300), and $730 of
that went to pay the sales tax on the new
car (new to me, anyway). They switched
the handicapped license plate and hangtag
over to the 2009 Volvo 2 door hard top
convertible, so no extra fees there (I
paid $9950 for it). I renew the tags in
June, but I can do that online, as well
as for paying the personal property tax;
so, I don't have to go back to the state
revenue office unless I have to...as the
drivers license doesn't expire until 2027.
Yet, I won't get the revised Title for 2
to 3 months (8 to 10 weeks).

Today, the Volvo went back to where I bought
it for routine servicing (it was pre-owned),
and that won't cost me anything. I may check
into a service plan, once I get the claim
settlement from Geico, but that won't take
place until the chiropractic treatment is done.

Speaking of which, I'm making slow progress
with the treatment. I was 52% recovered last
week, and at 61% today. The goal is 90%, so I
likely will continue that through February.

A friend of mine said "the car looks like a
chick magnet". I've "named" the vehicle
"Carlotta" (my late XYL called an earlier
car that), and I'm not going to take its top
down, or do likewise with a YL. While dirty
old hams need love, too (hi hi), I'm not
stupid.

We had rain and thunderstorms last evening,
overnight, and through midday. I was worried
that tornado season was starting early. Areas
of north Arkansas may see some light snow
Tuesday night and Wednesday; but central
Arkansas is still in "a snow drought". At
least I got my nets done before the storms
arrived. As long as I can do my hobbies, and
have food and drink, I can take Uber if I
need to go out...that'll be part of the claim
to Geico.

NS2B:

'Twas a good week. We finally got a little
bit of snow. More coming tomorrow and beyond.

The Chiefs won the division. Living in Bills
land I had to lay low with my pleasure on
that!!

Haven't done much radio'ing lately. I'm just
about ready to try out the FM satellites, but
I just need to be ready when one passes over!
It's a scheduling thng now.

Sounds like your transportation issues have
about worked themselves out. Glad to hear that.

Glenn - if you're using WSJT-X, I think it dupe
checks for you. You'll need to look at your
color coding setup. But mine is set so that
Green indicates I've worked them on this band,
light Turquoise means I've worked them on another
band, bright Turquoise says they're fair game!

KF5TVG:

Love the name "Carlotta" for a car. I have a
bright red mustang, and my sister in law named
it Ruby, and it stuck.

Also, Bob, Glad to see the Chiefs going to Super
Bowl. Will be a fun game.

Thinking about trying out Winter Field Day this
year. Don't do much voice, and no CW. FT8 is
ruled out, so need to brush up on using fldigi
for psk31, olivia, etc. Any of you guys done WFD?

I referenced a VERY small terminal emulator last
week here. It made hackaday.com this week, so
more than just me interested.

Suggest FT8 users really can benefit from using a
companion program called Gridtracker. Makes all
the difference if you are trying to keep track
of where you've been, etc.

Also, Yoniq was mentioned earlier. It does have
English as an option, but since it starts in
Spanish, it was tricky for me to change. Look
under "Opciones > Configurar MMSSTV > Misc" then
click on "Ingles" button, and restart the program.
However, if you like MMSSTV, not enough changes
to worry about with Yoniq.

Caryl, glad you are on the mend! Thanks to you
and Bob for running the net every week. Caryl,
"like your car "Darlotta".

AB8M:

Good evening everyone from Northeast Ohio.
Chilly out there. Expecting some freezing rain
and some snow tonight.

Never did winter field day. Seems like that
would be cold.

And Daryl, the Field Day folks will tell you
it isn't a contest, it's a prepardness exercise,
but... it has points, it's a contest. And I
like contesting. :-)

Glad to hear you're on the mend, sounds like
hopefully it'll be resolved soon.

I like using JT-Alert along with wsjt-x. If you
set it up correctly in the settings in wsjt-x
to allow it to connect UDP, it'll color code
all of the decodes for you, show you the dupes.
I actually have it synced with DXKeeper (my log
book) so it shows me if I need a country or a
zone, or a state, etc etc.

VA7RBP:

Another uneventful week, sat around, watched TV,
and played on the radio. Did a bit of SSTV using
MMSSTV, I tried Yoniq but it's all in Spanish. I
like the old MMSSTV.

Did some JS8 today on 17M, and managed a QSO with
a station in Alaska, then QSYd down to 20M and 40M.

Just the usual 40M PACTOR1 messaging in the mornings
with the old PK232MBX, and I call a daily NOON-TIME
NET on 2M.

I have a few items on order from Amazon for a couple
of projects, but have to sit around twiddling my
thumbs until stuff shows up.

Our temps have been bouncing between 20 and 30F, we
had a bit of snow last night, but expect four or
five days of the white stuff starting maybe
Wednesday. Not looking forward to that.

Thanks to Bob for the Yoniq tip, I was lazy, saw
Spanish and went naah..

I also did the dyslexic thing with Daryl's name,
and referred to him as Darly once...

N3MEL:

Hope everyone is well! We are expecting a little
snow over night here.

I have been playing with ft-8 this week and js8
on 10 & 6 meters.

Does anyone on the net work with ft-8, and is there
a easy way to dupe check a contact?

Thank you for the ft-8 info, not much else here so
thank you for having the net, and 73.
