WX4QZ:
First, our condolences to the family of Gene, N9LCF,
who was a regular participant in this net...I found
out Sunday from NS2B that Gene is a SK now. Yesterday
was the 1 year anniversary of the passing of Connie,
KB0ZSG, known as "The Queen Of D-Star", after a valiant
battle with breast cancer. It still seems like yesterday
since we lost her...she is sorely missed.
Two back to back snowstorms brought nearly 2 feet of snow
along the Interstate 30 from Texarkana to just northeast
of Little Rock. It was at least 53 on Sunday, near 60 today,
and it'll be around 64 Tuesday...so a lot of melting is
occurring (never mind Judge Doom in Roger Rabbit or the
witch in The Wizard Of Oz (hi hi)). But, they are now
talking about starting tornado season with a bang...with
flooding rain, severe storms, and possible tornadoes, late
this week into next week. It's going from one extreme to
the other (sigh!). A picture of the snow totals is in my
D-Rats Shared Folder.
The soap opera "As The Steering Turns" continues...
Whether you buy a new or pre-owned (used) car, the law
of entropy will get you sooner or later. The Chevy Cruze
is needing a ton of work, but I'd rather pay to get it
fixed now, than worry about more expensive repairs later.
I'm getting back to chiropractic treatment this week,
as the clinic was closed all last week due to snow and
icy roads. I'd like to get that care done, and hopefully,
get a nice settlement from Geico...I'd rather not have to
go to court, and I'm sure they don't want to, either.
Still no word on that $35 fee the FCC is going to charge
for a new, upgraded, or renewed ham radio license...change
in callsign (sequential or vanity), or other things. Once
it shows up in the Federal Register, it'll kick in 30 days
later.
The Time Change to Daylight Savings Time is on March 14.
If you're in Arizona, Hawaii, or any of the US territories...
or observe UTC Time, the UTC Time will be one hour earlier.
Otherwise, the net time for this (and most other nets) won't
change.
Speaking of March, my brother called today to wish me a
Happy Birthday. The problem was he was a month early. He
was so embarrassed, and his friends were laughing their
butts off (hi hi).
Bob, FB on the WSPR and Allstar deals...good luck with them.
That deal on "drunk winter" is too funny (hi hi).
Scott, we didn't lose power or have water issues here, but
many others weren't so lucky. I hope the heavy rain forecast
won't flood out Jackie's garden plans.
Rick, hope you get to feeling better. FB on the new antenna
for packet.
Doug, if you can call staying at home for 10 days "fun" (hi hi).
GL with "the Field Day Emergency Rations". And, you forgot to
"be weather aware". Three things fail when we get older...the
first is memory...and I can't remember the other two (hi hi).

NS2B:
A somewhat uneventful week. We've been frozen for the past
2 weeks like most of the rest of the country - the only
difference is, it's normal for us!
On the radio front, I figured my HF rig as a WSPR node for
a day last week. As the wsprnet spots rolled it seemed like
normal propagation although I wasn't hearing anything. But I
was spotting and being spotted out to Colorado. So I guess
were sort of working.
I have also developed an interest in building myself an Allstar
node. I'm going to let the idea ferment for a while, and if
I still want to do it this time next month I might go for it!
Speaking of having your winter weather back. My brother
girl-friend - they live in Marshfield, MO. posted a meme that
said something like: To all my northern friends, winter has
showed up in my yard drunk - come get him!
Doug: we currently have no Allstar locally - planning a low
power node - if it goes well, will transplant into one of the
club repeaters.

KF5JRV:
I had 10 inches of snow up on my hill. Escaped the ice.
I got -17 degree Monday. I took that pretty well. No
frozen pipes so no harm no foul.
I am sorry to hear of Gene's passing.
Jackie is getting the rabbit manure ready. Another couple
of weeks and planting will start.

VA7RBP:
Arlene and I are well. Not a heck of a lot to report for the
past couple of weeks.
Temps have gotten down to 12F a few times, and we've had
some snow on and off, but today, we have rain and temp 45F,
summer is coming.
I got a case of the sniffles week before last, and was told
to stay home from the EOC until it was totally better.
I've just been watching TV and playing on the radio. I'll be
back at the EOC Wednesday evening to try out the HF radios.
This Saturday, I sawapped my good Diamond X30A voice radio
antenna onto the VHF Packet radio, and found I was able to
link to VE7KNL is Salmo, about 30 miles away in mountainous
terrain. Then I tried a digi link through VE7KNL to N6YKA
in NE Washington, and that was successful, so I took the
plunge and ordered a Diamond X50A for the Packet Node, it
should be here in a week.
Bob, we also have an Allstar node going into one of our
repeaters, it's still in the experimental stage, but it
sounds really good.

AB8M:
Happy Monday Daryl! Hope you are doing well and still on the
mend from your recent fun.
I also hope everything is melting there, you guys got more
snow than you could want, I think. Some of my co-workers in
Little Rock contacted me, and told me I can have all the
winter weather back that I wanted.
Bob - have fun with the allstar node, just don't be like the
guys on the west side of Cleveland. There's three different
stations, all connected to the same allstar node, all within
simplex range of each other, and all running their nodes on
like 50-100 watts on a different 2m simplex frequency. I'm
in the middle of them and can hear them all. :-)
Other than that, it was back to work today. I brewed another
10 gallons of beer over the weekend and got the lagers that
were in the fermenters into kegs. Getting those "field day"
emergency rations ready to go!
Well, if I need to be tail end Charlie, let me steal the
phrasing from Daryl. Everyone stay healthy, be safe, and
most of all, stay radioactive!
