Don't forget about the time change this
weekend to DST. An extra hour of daylight,
but a lost hour of sleep. Most net times
will NOT CHANGE, but UTC times will. Check
with the various Net Controls for details.
I went in for my eye exam this morning, and
I'm apparently in the very early stages of
glaucoma (the wording was "suspect"). They
want me back in 3 months...at least they
can give medicine to slow it...but they
don't feel I'm in imminent danger of
blindness. It was bad enough I needed blind
hams to get me out of hamfest parking lots
and hospital parking decks years ago (hi hi).
My pupils are about back to normal now.
The colonoscopy is set for April 8, with a
COVID-19 test on April 5. I hope everything
comes out all right on all counts (hi hi).
The clinic where my PCP is just reopened,
after being closed for the winter storm, and
a large amount of water damage from burst
pipes 3 weeks ago. My urology clinic didn't
have the water damage...but both are so
backlogged with patients right now, I may
wait until mid-April to get the other stuff
rescheduled.
I'll be 61 in 2 weeks, but I'm still too
young to get a COVID-19 shot. They are supposed
to change the directives to guidelines by
March 31...I hope it doesn't become an April
Fool. Several hamfests are again being canceled,
but at the moment, the Huntsville Hamfest is
still on in August...but there's no way I can
make the trip.
I hope to finish the chiropractic treatment
after the car wreck 2 months ago early next
week...a large monetary settlement from Geico
would make a nice birthday present.
The batteries are running down quickly on the
cellphones (they normally only last 2 years),
but I can't afford new ones right now.
I heard a rumor that the Japanese electronics
plant that had that huge fire late last year,
was to restart production sometime in May.
There is a ton of amateur and commercial radio
and TV rigs, etc. that have been put on hold or
discontinued, due to a parts shortage. If anyone
can confirm or deny that, I know many folks
would appreciate that.
Speaking of parts shortages, the Volvo had that,
but I got it exchanged for a Chevy Cruze...but
had to put out a large amount for repairs (used
cars are sold AS IS). I have to get a new
windshield, but last Friday, they set me up for
an appointment...only problem was that it was for
MEMPHIS and NOT in LITTLE ROCK. So, I have to wait
until Saturday to get that done. I feel like I
bought a new car, for all the money I've spent
on it.
This coming weekend could be very stormy, severe
weather wise (it's tornado season here now). The
insects are also coming out, and pollen will soon
follow suit. The car washes will be making a killing.
On my computer BBS, a message network got dropped
in my lap. I had told the person who had it that
"I'd need help setting things up"...that help never
came. I hope I didn't get more than I bargained for.

A somewhat uneventful week. Got my first Covid shot.
The 2nd shot comes at the end of the month.
Got industrious over the weekend and cleaned out
kitchen cabinets. It's amazing how much crap you
can collect in 20 years.
Not much new in the radio front.
Weather here warming up over the next few days -
60+ and sunny on Wednesday the weather guessers
are saying - I might have to play hooky from work!!

Good Evening Daryl and all on the net.
It was a pretty good week. My new Diamond X50A
antenna arrived, and I immediately put it to
work playing with 2M SSB. It worked better
than my home made four element Yagi. There's
a 2M SSB net tomorrow night a couple hundred
km west, we'll see if I can pick anything up.
I bought it for my packet node, and that's
where it's living at the moment.
Although, the packet traffic I was seeing at
the beginning of the week just faded away...as
if someone kicked the pebble that the signals
were bouncing off.
Also did some solder repair work for a couple
of the guys that have shaky hands.
Yesterday, we got to visit on the back deck
with our daughter and family. It was cold,
but still enjoyed the visit.

I have a local 2m net that got moved to the
same time slow slot, so I have been absent.
Busy around here as things warm up.
I've been changing motorcycle tires and
getting things ready for the spring.
On the radio front, I've been testing the
new Q65 mode with a few hams.
K1JT was on last week and I worked him on
6m mid-day ion-scatter. I also worked a
station in Nova Scotia.
It may be useful for EME. I tried some EME
on 432 and got some good decodes JT65 Mode B
Other than that soldering and fixing stuff.
I got a Hallicrafters SX-71, and I don't know
what the fuss is about. Yeah it has 6m (if
the oscillator will keep running for that
band) and FM, but I honestly like my S-76
better. Time will tell once I get it all
working.
Good luck on the 2m SSB net, Rick. Things
have been good on 2m weak signal here.
I got into Ohio recently. ;-)

Daryl, just remember, you only lose sleep
if you don't go to bed early *wink*.

72.1 f degrees here today. working outside
cleaning out storage building before tear
down and replace.
Going on road again this weekend. Will try
to check in remotely if possible.
Loving this weather. Back to hiking in the
area. This is a good time to hike in the
woods without snakes and bugs out yet.
Yes, agree re Telnet access. Thank you, Bob,
it comes in handy at times.
On web browser last few times, but if/when
this has hiccup, it's handy fall back to Telnet

Wanted to thank Bob also for providing me a telnet
login, some days the pacnet node is there and some
it is not.
A few of us here have been working with JS8CALL
on 6 & 10 meters having a good time with it.
