Note that next Monday May 31, is the US Memorial Day Holiday, so
The PCL Net will NOT meet that night. We will resume the following
Monday, June 7. Bob is recycling my post from last week for good
measure (hi hi).
The corneal abrasion in my right eye has healed, but I've been at
the computer far too long...with degenerative disk disease in my
back and spine, and my eyes giving me fits, along with a daily
migraine sinus headache. But, the vision issues have kept me from
putting my BBS into the cloud. I have been doing a lot of sleeping
lately, and have been cutting down on my eating. The diet of lunch
meat chicken sandwiches and diet green tea citrus is getting old.
Plus, I'm getting burned out on the places I was going to graze at.
After this Thursday, I will no longer be part of the New Mexico
D-Star Net. One repeater owner has his repeater timing out at 60
to 90 seconds. While emergencies can happen at any time...trying
to get all hams to limit their QSO to 30 to 60 seconds, is like
trying to get all hams to use UTC time in their shack...it ain't
gonna happen!!
Well, to my surprise, the original contractor called, and he said
that they and Allstate have come to an agreement on the repairs.
I did sign the contract earlier today, and they expect it to take
a week, once repairs start. I didn't need it fancy...just usable
and livable. I had three fellow square dancers...a caller who's
now retired military (Air National Guard), one who works for a
plumbing supply firm, and a contractor; who were going to stop by
Wednesday evening to look at the state of the bathrooms, in case
this didn't work out. But, if this can be done, I'll be happy.
There's no way the house can sell (although I have no intention to
do so). The needed colonoscopy has to wait until the bathrooms are
repaired...I'll get new toilets, floors, sinks, cabinets, and
walls...and stuff moved out of the bath/shower area. The contractor
may have someone to buy a bunch of vinyl LP's and Clive Cussler Books
from me.
I boxed up all of my VE Testing stuff, as it looks like it'll be
September before local facilities open up for testing again; but
by then, students returning from their summer vacation will bring
COVID-19 with them. So, I may send all that (as well as my VE badge)
back to ARRL/VEC. The Arkansas Emergency Declaration is to be lifted
on May 30, and many cities have lifted the mask mandate. How long
that'll remain is anyone's guess. I've heard that with some COVID-19
injections, that there's a chip that causes a magnet to stick to the
site...with the chip used to track your whereabouts (Big Brother 1984
is here). I have an old bulk eraser that I used to erase old broadcast
carts that looked like 8 track tapes...I wonder if that'd work to
disable the possible internal chip?? For the record, I tried a magnet
from the refrigerator, and it didn't stick to my arm...so I guess I'm
good. The FCC knows where to find me (hi hi).
Storms are back in Tuesday through the holiday weekend, so that will
limit my net time this week. We probably won't be able to buy a drop
of rain come July. At least for us, fire danger is low...but the
lawns (grass and weeds) are growing like mad.
I skewed the address on ordering a DV Mega Stick from overseas, so I
never got the item. I told the author not to worry about a refund or
a reshipment, because of my stupidity (I'm out quite a bit of money
as a result). But, I have decided if I can't get it locally, I do
without it...ham radio or otherwise. So, if the ThumbDV fails, that
leaves only Packet Via Telnet, CQ100, Winlink 2000, and D-Rats. I
can't afford a new ThumbDV right now, with other financial issues
outside ham radio.
To end my griping on a lighter note...on the QCWA Webinar via Zoom
over the weekend, one ham said in chat that he wanted to buy the QCWA
President, VE6AFO, a beer. I replied "I'll take a diet green tea
citrus...you can hold my beer". But, another ham told me that "being
in the south, you should've added 'Watch This'"!! (hi hi).
I'm still a puppy at 61...didn't realize we all were in the same age
group.

I have been recieving Bulls in my BPQ, and thought I would step in
and see what it was about. I too know the used up feeling... after
26 years in IT and in the last 6 went thru...4 lay-offs or
restructures whatever they want to call it, it meant don't let the
door hit you on your way out....
Well, after first one, I made plan to sock away all the severence and
buy outs, and now I just work at playing the market Hi Hi... but yeah
after a 12 hour day used up right!
Would like to throw out a wave to Scott JRV... my in-laws use to live
in Kingston but move to Berryville in 2016...
Started laughing out loud when saw your location upon log in.
You would not want the rain we have been getting in Colorado... last
two days over 12 tornadoes and 3 inch hail stones!

Yes, it has been awhile. I always forget getting old hi
sounds like you are as old as I am 65 will be 66 in Nov retire at after 2
months plan to open ss claim but work to 70.
I was trying to type ahead for you.
I had a 3 day weekend and got a lot of things done out side But it was a hot one.
Today had to take the wife for a shot in her back and it was for noon time.
So this morning I was working on my ponds fresh water clean pumps...
I did install a new rf port on my bpq system it now has 2 VHF ports
145.030 and 145.010.
So how was that for burst typing hi hi ..
Guess thats it oh by the I seem to have problems connecting to the net
I had to connect to COSCO than pacnet..

It was a wet week. Could not get out and do much.
Working on a packet node for the NW Arkansas Springdale area. Having
a dificulty with a cable to a motorola maxtrac. Probably a internal
jumper problem.
Jackie has had the plants out for several weeks, but today was finally
warm enough for them to start growing.
I did not realize it had been 5 years. As for age, I will be 61 next month,
and Jackie will be 65 this Wednesday.
Scott WAV - Your inlaws may have heard of me. I am the chainsaw man at
Cleaver in Huntsville.

Daryl, I was going to say, you can type faster than I can read!!
Glad the hear the eye healed up. Like you, I can only take so many hours
in front of a computer. Since I do it for a living, by the time I get to
packet activity I'm about used up!!
Hopefully Guus makes good on the DVstick - sorry to hear it went
"somewhere else"!
Speaking of the BBS - I meant to mention - yesterday was 5 years since
the first net was held here after moving PACNET from K.O's system. K.O.
and Billie are surely missed. Thanks for scribing Daryl!
Scott (WAV), I know all you speak of! I'm thinking I can retire come
this December, but we'll see how that plan works out.
Thanks for checking us out! We sometimes have a bigger crowd - spring/
summer and covid finally letting loose has most folks out playing I
think lately.
Yeah, don't need any of that weather! We get plenty of snow in the winter,
but otherwise we don't really have any weather issues to complain of. No
(or trivial) tornadoes. No hail. No thunderstorms to speak of - at least
nothing like you midwestern/western folks get. So I'll keep my snow!

I got tomatoes out - one died - so put out another one. My rose bushes
are coming on gangbusters - even one i tried to kill by mowing over!!
