Work continues on the bathroom, but they
are busy with other places, so they didn't
come by today. I hope they get by
soon...but as long as I have one working
toilet, and can go to the kitchen sink to
wash my hands, I'll make it work. Besides,
until they finish the job, they don't get
paid (although they got the $1000
deductible deposit), and I don't get the
depreciation money.
My house insurance doubled in the last year,
mainly with the price of lumber, as well
as the claim. I won't be doing any more
traveling outside of central Arkansas, as I
can't afford it (never mind not being able
to afford eating out), and the long drives
are hard on me. This diet of chicken
nuggets, lunch meat sandwiches, and diet
green tea citrus, is getting old. I can't
see how my brother can eat out every day...
never mind he smokes and drinks. At least
he has his own place.
COVID-19 cases continue to spike in
Arkansas...and some hospitals are full.
The State bought a bunch of lottery tickets
as an incentive to get folks to take the
shots, but there's still a lot of
hesitancy. Someone won a million dollars,
but it wasn't me (I sure could use that
right now). I'm not sure if mask mandates
will return or not. They're already talking
about multiple doses. Some report a
"tracking magnet" injected...but I still
have an old portable bulk eraser from Radio
Shack, that I used when I was in
broadcasting 40 years ago. Had a magnet
stuck to my left shoulder, I would've used
the item on it to demagnetize things. I
hear they're coming "door to door" to
"force you" to take a shot. I'd tell them
they are trespassing, I'm going to call the
police on them, and my health is none of
their business...but I don't think
"mooning" them would go over real well (hi
hi).
We've had storms the last several days, and
aren't in a drought or fire danger; not
like much of the western US is right now.
With the heat and humidity, heat indexes
will likely mean advisories and warnings
next week. The Cape Verde Hurricane Season
starts August 1...it has been quiet since
Elsa, but things could get active again
soon in the Atlantic Basin.
The next license exam session is set for
August 28. Interest will likely pick up
when the 2022 Technician Class Question
Pool comes out early next year, as it
changes on July 1. I hope the session
doesn't get canceled because of COVID-19.
Bob, Death Valley had a morning low of 108,
and a high of 129. Too hot for me.
As for "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
Someone ought to tell Microsoft that.
Windows 11 will only be 64-bit, so the BBS
computer stays with Windows 10 32-bit.

Good Evening Bob and Daryl.
Zero radio work this week, as I have the
shack disassembled to put in a new radio
desk I picked up last Manday. When I
reconnected the HF rig I was seeing a bunch
of RFI, so I have it off untill I can sort
out the cause.
I have to build new shelves for the
equipment and re-route all the wiring, so
whatever I did has to be related to
positioning of equipment or wiring.
I build a couple of rack units out of
plywood ($$$) to house the computers and
power equipment. I can finally get those
off of the desk. I still have some painting
to do on all the wood items, but the heat
is only letting me work for a few hours
each day.
The smoke from the forest fires is
horrendous here, could not see the other
side of the river 450 ft away, and working
out in the car port in the smoke, was rough
on breathing. Just before the net, the wind
picked up and shifted the smoke North, back
toward the fires, a bit of relief for now.

Been on the road couple weeks, about 8 more
days to go. Visited friends in Memphis TN,
now visiting nephew in Carrolton, GA, near
Atlanta.
Not heard any packet activity, if anyone
knows of packet in this area let me know
Have D72 and laptop so maybe could reach
some vhf stuff.
Still much rain around Branson and rained
nearly every day since been in GA
Highest temp on trip so far 90 f one day
here
Sounds like tough weather still in BC,
sorry to hear that.
Daryl, re Windows 11, have two laptops and
neither strong enough to run W11. One is
not updating W10 now. May install Mint or
Ubuntu.

Daryl, I generally don't get into peoples
business about vaccinations. It can be a
personal choice, but I'm thinking for this
bug unless you have a specific medical
reason why you can't have the vaccine, you
better be getting it! Otherwise, we're
going to spend the rest of our lives with
masks on.
Speaking of Covid cases - did you hear the
one about the Texas Democrats that took off
to DC so they wouldn't have to vote on a
voting reform bill?? 5 of them have Covid -
a case is being made that they probably
aren't vaccinated as the breakout rate for
infection of the vaccinated is something
like .0001% - in this case it's like 10% of
them! Just an example of the insanity going
on!!
Now that it's just me - I find eating out
to be nearly as economical as grocery
shopping - granted I don't eat as much as I
used to.
We finally got some rain here - the
downside is now I have to mow my yard!
Those western temps are crazy out there -
someone was telling me that it's a
phenomenon that occurs every 200 years or
something? never hear do that that - I
also hear they're really hurting for water
out there too - not a good place to live
these days.

Rick, let that be a lesson to ya - if it's
working don't fix it!!
I got started in SSTV in the days when SSTV
software was just coming out - you used an
op-amp comparator circuit connected to a
serial port to detect and generate SSTV
audio. The first circuit I build was this
ugly fuzzball/hairball looking thing - but
it worked great! After a few months I
thought, I should neaten that up - never
worked again!!
I saw a meme about plywood - 4x8 5/8"
plywood looking to trade for early model
Corvette - don't try to lowball me, I know
what I have!!
I hope the fires go a different direction

Charley, I don't know of any packet
stations there off the top of my head.
I'm always a late adopter - most of my
windows machines are still windows 7 - I
have one windows 10 - I'll probably have a
windows 11 machine when windows 10 becomes
ancient!! :-)
I like Xubuntu - I use that on a few
computers - thanks for being here Charley,
