thanks for posting here your message.
I like this kind of discussions. Let's have them here on packet.
Well, regarding APRS, I've always used it for sharing information.
I mean: proximity information. If I have to travel in one place, maybe
I would like to know what I could find there in terms of HamRadio 
services or emergency services.
I've used it even of chat, but I do prefer the Convers or IRC via AX.25.
It's much more reliable.
Since a decade or so, I'm having fun with HF Aprs (via Robust Packet and
HF Packet).
