GE to all on the net.

Thankfully, that Medicaid deal about removing my
Medicare Low End Benificiary Payment was a glitch.
I thought for sure I'd have to sell the car to pay
the monthly premium.

A regional hamfest was canceled due to Covid-19 and
other things...and I saw another new variant has
appeared in the northwest US. It wouldn't surprise
me to see other hamfests cancelled...the deal out
in Visalia, CA was victim to the cancellations.

After years of trying to check into other nets, I
have given up. No one seemingly complies with Net
Control, and no one has any sense of net etiquette.
So, the only time I'm on the air now is for nets I
run (6 during the week, 7 with a 3rd Saturday), or
for sked requests. Basically, I'm off on Wednesday,
Thursday, and every Saturday, except the 3rd. My
D-Rats connections have been also reduced to just
the St. Tammany, Louisiana Parish one only. It's
too much of a mad rush to try to get in. I'll still
run my nets (unless I get fired (!)), and still do
the Excel Net Spreadsheets. But, except for 3 weekly
and 1 monthly nets I do on the QuadNet Array, one
net on a regional D-Star Reflector, this net, and a
CQ100 Net, I'm going to make myself scarce.

I came down with bronchitis last week, and have been
doing a lot of sleeping. I got some DayQuil softgel
tablets earlier today, and took one before a power
nap...and got 2 bottles of NyQuil liquid. I will take
a dose of that after the nets, after eating one of the
small 3 minute pizzas for a late dinner. I had to take
a nap when I got home from errands earlier today.

Still no word for US hams on that $35 fee. Still
nothing on the ARRL website as of Jan. 24, 2022. So,
the earliest it'd take effect would be Feb. 23, 2022,
even if they posted something tomorrow. I hope they
wait until summer to implement it.

Little if any rain or snow is expected here into early
next week; with cool days and cold nights. I don't
know if a Special Event Station for Groundhog Day (Feb.
2) will be on HF or not. I saw a meme that had a wolf
in the snow, and he growled "The groundhog said there'd
be 6 more weeks of winter. So, I ate him" (hi hi). I've
heard they have a "cardiac killer breakfast", with all
the fattening food you'd expect. Our tornado season will
be here soon, but we still have 2 more months of winter
to go. We still remember last February, with 2 feet of
snow on the ground in Little Rock, and a low of -6F. I
need a shave and a haircut badly, but it's too cold for
either one right now.

I'll be here on Valentine's Night, weather permitting.
So, if you have a date with your XYL or GF, take the
night off. You don't want to be in the doghouse (hi hi).

N3FWE:

Figured I would check out this packet net again.

We had some prettly cold days this week. Some mornings it hit
the single digit. One morning it was 5 degrees. I still try
to get out for my daily walks. It's been hard to walk on the
ice covered trails at the local park. I have to get out for
my walk in or I feel restless.

This week I finally received some mail after going 10 days
without mail. Post Office is short of help. I finally received
my FT4 WAS endorsement the Post Office lost. ARRL had to send
it out again. Took 6 weeks to get after the mailing.

I haven't been on HF much this week, but I did make contact
with W1AW in CT on 80 meters. I think they have a special QSL
card you can get.

I been spending more time playing with packet via the ISS.
I only been doing this for a couple weeks and it's a lot of fun.
I received a couple QSL cards in the mail confirming the ISS
contacts. I had issues and wasn't getting matches when I upload
to LOTW. I found I had to enable two fields in N3FJP sofware
"Prop Mode" and "Sat Name" before uploading to LOTW. So now I'm
getting some matches on LOTW.

Winter Field Day is this weekend so I will try to get some
contacts there to help out the club.

I had some headaches here at the house with plumbing. Slowly
working on them. Working on cleaning up the basement since
it's cold outside. I have so much junk I collected over the
years I don't know what to do with it. But I found an old Ramsey
FM transmitter kit I built many years ago. I will have to see
if it still works.

Winter Field Day is this weekend so I will try to get some contacts
there to help the local club.

I want to check into the $35 FCC fee when it starts. There are a
couple GMRS repeaters in the area and it seems like every one that
checks into them is a ham. They even have nets on them.

I did pick up a cheap GMRS to play with but can't use it yet.

Wrong cut and paste but thats ok.

Everyone have a good week. Btu >>>

NS2B:

It was a fair week - it's been cold here with snow.
I think they call it winter!

I'm sore right now - played pickleball at the towns rec center.
Went I got home, I complained to the gf that "those old people
beat me up". She retorted; "you are one of those old people"...
gee thanks...

The OCF dipole I put up is no longer tuning up on 40m. I think
it's a combination of being too close to the roof, and now the
roof is snow covered. When weather permits I'll have to make some
changes.

My new (to me) ID-51A arrived over the weekend so I now have an
almost modern D-Star radio. My old IC-80AD had done it's job,
but it was time for upgrade. Anyway, it's working well.

Cleaning out the basement - a project I'm also working on - but
with several decades of collecting junk it might be a while
before I'm done!

Nothing more here. 73 to all - stay warm! >>>

VA7RBP:

Good evening Daryl and all on the net.

It was another one of those weeks..SSDD

My WSPR sessions only netted out as far as Hawaii and New Zealand
on 17M this week, No Antarctica..lots of 20M on the NA continent.

Played with PACTOR, HF Packet, Robust Packet using WinRPR, VarAC
on 40M and 20M.

Did a lot of scrounging through my parts bins for components for
more projects.

That's about it...just trying to keep busy.

Everyone have a great week. 73 until next time. BTU Daryl >>>

GE Daryl and all on the net!

So So week. My C drive crashed on my laptop. My important docs
were saved in the cloud, but its been a pain to get the apps
reloaded.

So... I've had a chance to reacquaint myself with the concept of
getting a full image of the C drive on occasion. Duh!!!

You asked about plans for Winter Field Day. Several of us are
invited to go to a friends hunting camp in SE Okla for WFD.

It's way out there so the nosefloor should be really low. It
will be a subset of the guys that get together for regular FD.

We've ranked 1st the last two years in the 3A qrp battery
category.

Don't know if I have the energy to go tho. Don'treally want
to stay overnight and it's about an hour and a half drive.

I did WFD solo last year. FT8 is not allowed, so I tried JS8Call.
Worked pretty well as a digital qrp mode.

Hope everyone has a great week! Bob NY, thanks for the BBS and
Daryl thanks for running the net tonight. 73 >>>

Replies From WX4QZ:

Rick, I told folks on other nets about your WSPR contact
you noted last week. I hope the bands will get cooperative.
At least you were able to get out...the SSDD can get boring.

Bob (NY), FB on the "upgraded" D-Star rig. A ham out in
California is shipping me an extra ThumbDV to use as a
backup for my nets. A ham had shipped his HF rig back
for repair, via UPS...and they dropped something heavy
on the rig, crushing it. At least it was insured, so he
hopes to get a nice replacement right. And, welcome to
the decrepit old f@r+$ club with pickleball (hi hi).

Bob (OK), if the nosefloor is low as the noise floor, you
can sniff out contacts on the low bands (hi hi). Sorry...
I couldn't resist that pun. I had to reformat my smartphone
the other day, so know about the apps rebuild.

Steve, thanks for being here...GL on Winter Field Day. I'm
not surprised with the issues with the Post Office. FB on
the packet contact with the ISS. I need to do housecleaning
and other stuff, but I just don't have the energy. GL with
the Ramsey FM Transmitter kit.
