WX4QZ (Replies toward the bottom):

As fast as we get one holiday done, another one is
coming up. This year, July 4 is on a Monday, so the
PCL Net won't meet that night. Then, our next holiday
isn't until Labor Day.

Field Day is coming up in just over 2 weeks, but I
have no plans for it. I have to get setup with the
new exam software, as the Technican Class Question
Pool and exams change on July 1. I don't think I
have anyone testing at my next session on July 23.

Another stormy weather week in the region last week,
and it continues this week...but it looks to dry out
and heat up over the weekend into next week. I would
rather have the wet ground than the wildfire threat.
But, all that moisture will work toward 100+ degree
heat indexes next week...and our hottest part of the
year is still 2 months away.

I got a rebate on my cellphone service with Consumer
Cellular. I hadn't used anywhere near the data, so
my bill this month is nearly $30 cheaper. But, it was
offset by the Xfinity bill, that jumped $30, due to
a promotion ending. I'm supposed to get $30 the Xfinity
bill with that special broadband promotion...it would
sure help. Then, my lawn guy lost the $65 check I had
written him, so I'm out an additional $36 for the stop
payment. Maybe if I pay him in cash, and he loses that,
he's SOL. But, if I don't keep the lawn mowed, the city
will cite, arrest, and jail me. Yet, in my condition,
there's no way I can do the lawn. I thought about
getting stuff to kill the grass and bushes, but that
might weaken support for the trees around the house.

Having to get a bunch of medical items earlier today
really cut the available funds for groceries. I might
have 7 packages of very thinly sliced Buddig Lunch
Meat, but that's all the food in the icebox. That isn't
very nutritious (90 calories and 600 milligrams of
sodium per pack), and it surely won't last me until
July 1. I need to eat something to take my medications
with, but while only eating 100 calories a day will
cause me to lose weight, it likely will cause other
medical issues...as if I didn't have enough already.

I wasn't able to get some more lunch meat today, let
alone a couple of loaves of wheat bread...the stores
were packed, and the parking space availability was
nil. Gas here jumped to $4.40 a gallon for regular...
$4.70 for midgrade, and $5 for premium. Hard to believe
that 3 years ago, gas was still under $2 a gallon. I
may just go ahead and sell the car before the month is
out, so I can pay the bills...but it'll put me in a
world of hurt in so many ways. Yet, vehicle headlights
are really doing a number on my eyes (I do have "suspect
glaucoma"), even with dark glasses during the day.
I've cleaned the inside of the windshield, but that
doesn't help things at all.

I rescheduled the cardiac ablation surgery consultation
to June 20...and hope they can do the surgery sometime
in July. But, if weather becomes an issue, I'll have to
postpone it again. I would hate having to take Lyft
everywhere, and the money from selling the car wouldn't
last. But, in having someone else drive me, I wouldn't
have to worry about visibility issues anymore. Then,
I'd tell Medicare that I was now "homebound", and "I
hope you're happy now".

But, if I cut the internet and cellphone, and sell the
car to save money, I'd be cut off from the outside
world, there'd be no more ham radio nets for me, no
more computer BBS or website updating, and no one would
know whether I was dead or alive...never mind my will
to live would be greatly diminished. I've had to deal
with all of this alone for several years...and even
though they gave me Prozac to deal with the depression,
it to me, was a waste to prescribe it in the first place.
Yet, I can't set up a GoFundMe page, or they might take
away what little I get in disability, plus my health
insurance. At that point, I would disappear...maybe
permanently. Besides, everyone is getting tired of my
whining anyway.

Hay Daryl and whoever else shows

Now on Hilton Head Island SC - been on road since
May 17

birthday at Xenia Ohio first time that hamfest.
VERY interesting.
had $50 coupon ARRL and $50 coupon DXEngineering.
beyond those not much spent except motel.
was a blast - may try again next year.
four large rooms with programs going all day each
day - attended several good ones.
DStar program was cancelled and wanted to learn
more about that

after Xenia a week in Williamsburg and now week
Hilton Head Island.

only brought one ht so not much ham only chat
few locals

Bob fb on your DStar history, glad it brought all
of us together. Hope your son does well

Rick I stay active mostly walking hiking and some
jogging. All you need is good walking shoes and a
safe place to walk. Bike good exercise also,
anything to keep your body moving. Many riding
bikes around this island but been enjoying walking
beach here.

Daryl take care of yourself, be like the bug going
through windshield giving a three finger salute.
Never give up

Branson local club doing Field Day as KC0M probably
run 3A.

Have an awesome week everyone fun to type at you all

VA7RBP:

Good evening Daryl and all on the net.

Of course, our holiday was a week before yours...
but we didn't do much, just relaxed at home.

Gas prices are getting to the point where we
won't be going anywhere, right now gas is
$2.059 / liter, or $6.21 / US gal.

We've been having lots of rain, and the river
here is running high with snow melt, but still
20 ft below us.

Had blood tests done last week, doc says I have
to do cardio exercises for 40 min 5 days a week,
to get the blood sugar reading down or else he's
going to put me on diabetes meds, so I'm getting
a new bicycle to help with that. Just have to
wait for fair weather to go riding.

Not much on the radio front lately, been doing
some WSPR to see which bands might work for me.
Doing some VarAC on 14.105 USB and on 17M. I've
also been playing with Allstar...having morning
chats with a guy in Anchorage, AK and a few others
around the world.

I need some test gear to set up the radio interface,
so I've held off going on-air with that.

I might particpate in field day, but we haven't
decided where we're going to set up yet.

Thanks for the advice Charlie, but jogging is
definitely out for me with my bad knee.

Well, I have nothing else, so everyone have a
great week, stay well, and 73 until next time,
BTU Daryl >>>

NS2B:

Good evening all!

It was a good week - and the concerts were good!
Saw Ringo Starr last Monday - and then saw Paul
McCartney this past Saturday - I have seen the
remaining Beatles now!

Gas prices have stalled out - artifically - the
governer suspended state gas tax. So the effect
is prices stalled - with the absence of tax the
latest inflationary hit just evened it out!

My son is supposed to be having an ablation done
this summer - we just don't know when yet.

Happy belated birthday Charley - I think that's
right...

It's a shame they cancelled the DStar seminar on
you - it continues to be my favorite mode. And
rightfully so - without DStar I would've never
met Daryl, who then clued me in to PACNET where
I met K.O. and Billie and the rest of you guys.
Strange how the dots connect sometimes.

Rick - there was a time when your gas was twice
as expensive as ours - now it's only 33% more
expensive ( I know, that doesn't help )

I've taken up Pickleball for my old age activity.
I really like the game - not very good at it -
but you don't have to be.

We've had a good mix of sun and rain here - my
garden loving it - hope it continues.

And lastly - no definite FD plans yet - I might
wander by one of the setups the local DX club
is running. Time will tell.

Nothing more here - thanks for doing the net -
everyone have a good week! 73 >>>

Replies From WX4QZ:

Charley, I heard 3 bad things about Hamvention:

1) 1 of the hotels dinged folks for nearly $500
a night, including a pet charge, even if they
didn't have a pet.

2) Several folks, including Ray Novak of Icom,
got Covid-19.

3) Attendance was slightly down from last year.

Glad you had a good time there, though...and at
least you're at Hilton Head before hurricane
season really kicks in.

The bug giving a 3 finger salute sounds like a
new feature Microsoft puts in with each Windows
Update. This last one crashed the authentication
feature.

As for the walking, the heat and insects in the
summer are too much for me...I'm already ready
for winter.

Rick, ouch on the gas prices...I hear it's even
higher in California...and they wonder why folks
are moving away.

Good luck on the blood sugar deal...I have the
potential to become type 2, but my A1C has never
been below 5.4 or above 6.1

As for the weather, some areas can't buy a drop
of rain, and others can't get the spigot turned
off.

Bands have been real bad lately...Sunday on 20m,
about 15 minutes into the QCWA HF Net, the band
folded like a house of cards. Glad I don't have
that issue on D-Star or CQ100. Had to renew my
CQ100 and QRZ subscriptions this past week, as
I used the QRZ data with Netlogger.

My having "water on the knee" (Baker's Cyst),
along with the arthritis, makes it hard for me
to stand in 1 place for very long. If I can
keep moving, like at a square dance, I'm OK.
What's real bad is in the store checkout lines,
as it takes forever to get through them, because
of a staffing shortage.

Bob, FB on the concerts.

On the gas prices, I doubt they'll stall out
here. The Democrats are panicking about the
midterms...I'll bet they're trying to get
another crisis besides the monkeypox to cancel
the elections, so they can stay in power.

It's a small world on how hams meet...those
days back on K.O.'s BBS were great...got to
meet them one year., and visit their QTH. Both
are sorely missed.

Don't know much about pickleball...I thought
it was the shape of a topping on a burger
(hi hi).

Thanks for providing the BBS for us.
