This year, July 4 is on a Monday, so the PCL Net won't
meet that night. Then, our next holiday isn't until
Labor Day. I hate the fireworks holidays, as I'm so
afraid that errant sparks will set the lawn or the roof
ablaze. If you report them, and they find out you did
it, they'll vandalize your property, and kill you for
"destroying their fun". Yet, these selfish fools think
nothing of their neighbors with PTSD, or their pets
with similar conditions. Never mind it's illegal to
shoot off fireworks, etc. within the city limits, but
they obviously don't care. I wish there was a way to
ban and outlaw the sale and purchase of those things;
but folks will find a way to get them, by hook or crook.
Field Day is late next week, but I have no plans for
it. I still have to get setup with the new exam
software, as the Technican Class Question Pool and
exams change on July 1. I don't think I have anyone
testing at my next session on July 23, but I'll have
to get transportation to/from it. The reason for it
is moderate to severe neck pain from the bones pressing
on the nerves, and moderate to severe back pain from
sitting too long in a chair or in a car (both have
been increasing markedly of late).
Both have forced me to make the hard choice to quit
driving, and sell my car early next week, after the
cardiologist consulation on cardiac ablation surgery.
The ablation surgery should get rid of the atrial
fibrillation and erratic heartbeat, and possible
stroke risk, but I'll still have congestive heart
failure to deal with. I want to be sure I make it to
the consultation; if I hadn't had to worry about that,
I would've sold the car this week.
I can't turn my head to check behind me to see if
it's safe to merge into traffic, without moderate to
severe pain...and I'm afraid my legs could spasm,
risking me to lose control of the car, hurting or
killing myself or someone else. It'll be a bear to
lose my independence, but it has become a health and
safety issue. It'll help monetarily in the short term,
though...and I hope the Medicare folks who said I
was ineligible for benefits because I wasn't classed
as "homebound" are happy now.
At least I can get groceries and medications delivered,
but I'll have to get Lyft to the Post Office to check
the P.O. Box once every 2 weeks, and to doctors
appointments...then have folks in my other hobbies and
at my church give me a ride. I hate imposing on folks,
but at least I won't have to worry about gas prices,
car repairs, flat tires, etc. anymore.
The storms have moved away with the sprawling summer
time high pressure over us...and the blast furnace
has arrived with heat advisories and excessive heat
warnings. I hope all those folks who wanted warm
weather are happy.
That's all I can think of right now...my head is
spinning. I made one last trip to a local restaurant,
and with it, I wanted to cry...it was like losing an
old friend, since I'll be stuck at home. Oh, well...

No FD for me this year. That's the IMSA 6 hours at the
Glen race this year, so I have to choose one or the
other - and I like racing more than ham radio - I know,
sacrilege...
If I had to get rid of my cars there's an apartment complex
that's walking distance to my doctor, dentist, and grocery
store. I suppose I could get along - as long as I could
still walk.
Did I tell you we saw Paul McCartney? I'm getting senile...
Man, what a show - that guy has still got it for an old man.

Still on road, Carrollton GA few days visiting nephew.
Bob years ago working on traffic signals belonged to IMSA
probably different than your IMSA.
International Municipal Signal Association.
We return Branson probably Friday.
Branson club Field Day set up usually 3A, at campground
north of town. Interesting location, club member daughter
owns campground, off grid entire campground solar power.
The solar controllers don't seem to bother our receivers.
Oh, Scott, will check have something you might be interested
in, and still enjoying your This Day in History
Daryl, 65 mostly four lane but not all. Sometimes if not in
hurry and daytime take Highway 7, scenic drive.
Rick, keep ear out for our FD station, KC0M 3A MO, we usually
have cw station, digital station, and SSB station.
Few times I have set up packet and sent traffic for extra points.
Also Rick glad you got bike going, keep gears lower and easier
on your knees.

Good evening Daryl and all on the net.
Considering the amount of rain and cool temps we've had, it's
been crappy for outside activities.
I did manage to get in two 10 mile bike rides during breaks
in the rain.
With all the snow melt / spring runoff the Kootenay River below
our place is getting higher. Still have a ways to go before we
get worried though.
Field Day this year is going to be at a campsite on the East
side of Kootenay Lake near Riondel. We're going to be running
on solar and battery, with a backup generator if the weather
craps out on us.
I'm not tenting this year, tent busted a couple years ago, and
I got soaked. Going to sleep in the car, with the radio on the
front seat next to me. Now I just have get all the gear together
and ready to go.
My Field Day windoze 7 laptop developed a problem and I tried to
reload windoze...microsoft would not activate it...so now I have
two laptops running Debian 11...to heck with them. Now I just have
to figure out how to run windoze applications using wine. So far,
I have FLDIGI going.
I'll keep an eye out for you Charley. I'll probably try packet as
well. I'll have to see what software I can get operational this
week. And I'm still riding the old bike, the new bike is a week
or so away.

It has been busy with the garden and the store.
I have finished my KIM 1 Arduino replica and am relearning assmbly
lang.
Right now I am working on a 6 Meter APRS node. Just need to get
the antenna assembly and put up.
Jackie has been busy in the garden this spring. The cool rainy
weather has slowed the plant, but today and yesterday, we hit
mid 90's and full sun. THe squash is already coming on.
I would like to thank Charlie for the Today in History feedback.

Bob, I may be getting senile as well...I forgot to start the
logging to open the capture buffer for the net <blush!>.
There are other hobbies besides ham radio...I have 2 others
myself.
I wish I had the luxury of things being close...public
transportation around here leaves a lot to be desired.
FB on seeing Paul McCartney. I saw where Toby Keith is
battling stomach cancer...hated to hear that.
Charley, have a safe trip headed back to Branson. That
Scenic Highway 7 is a nice alternative to US 65. But,
with selling the car next week, I won't be doing any
traveling anymore. Interesting on the solar powered
campground for Field Day.
Rick, some of the rivers are running high right now, but
we're drying out and heating up.
Bummer on the Windows 7 laptop, and going to Linux. I
don't think Microsoft supports anything before Windows
10, and I know they hate that folks are using browsers
besides Edge, and OS's besides Windows. It's like the
US Postal Service wondering why folks are going to DHL,
UPS, FedEx, and Email.
GL with the bicycle and FD operations.

Miss Jackie has been busy.
