WX4QZ:
Bob is in Branson, and Charley is in Joplin,
so they requested an early checkin tonight.
I got the replacement cellphone on Friday, and
am still getting stuff ported over...but the
old one just wasn't working right anymore...I
think that's by design, so you constantly have
to buy new items. I decided to just buy a new
one, as if I had sent the other one off, it would
have left me without any phone communications.
Autumn may start this week, but it's going to be
in the 90s much of the week here, with a few
places nearing 100 Tuesday and Wednesday...then,
slightly cooler temperatures are forecast by
the end of the week, and slight chances of rain
early next week...it has been drying out here.
I'm glad I'm not in the southeast Bahamas, Bermuda,
or Newfoundland...as Hurricane Fiona, which caused
catastrophic flooding both in Puerto Rico and the
Dominican Republic, may affect those areas soon.
The entire island of Puerto Rico is also without
power. We're into our second severe weather season
here...then wondering what the winter will be like.
We need to get some rain and cooler temperatures,
or the fall foliage this year will be a dud.
I had computer issues today, and I've got to call
my Water Line Insurance folks...I've got a water
leak somewhere. I hope the deductible isn't too
high. I had to renew my ambulance service deal
today...with Medicare, it's $65 a year, and the
cost covers all emergency ambulance runs (they can
run well over $1000 otherwise). With still having
to deal with congestive heart failure, I consider
this a necessity...one run pays for itself.
I see the cardiologist next week, and I should
be able to discontinue the blood thinner, which
will save me some money on the prescriptions. I
need to set up an upper and lower GI, but I
want to see how much I have to pay on the water
line, and how much I'll have to pay for the
outpatient fees...never mind getting a driver.
The last time I did both the upper and lower GI
together, I got one of them for half price, and
only 1 anesthesia fee...so, that saved quite a
bit.
I'm also getting checked for rheumatoid arthritis
next month (I have arthritis, but not sure which).
If I don't have the rheumatoid, I can get part in
an MRNA flu shot study for 6 months, and get over
$650 in compensation after it's done. The hospital
had a 2 year study on the RSV virus (a respiratory
deal), but my BMI is way too high. Had I been able
to get that, at the end, I could've gotten $2800
compensation.
I'm filling in for a couple of nets this week,
and discovered I can't run a utility called
Peerblock or a VPN when using the BlueDV program
to access D-Star, DMR, or Fusion, or I can't
access the reflectors, talkgroups, etc.

Daryl, I can't keep up with you and your range of
medical issues. Bless your heart! I'm glad you're
here tonight and keep us up to date.
You mentioned Bob is in Branson... My xyl has been
after me to take her there for a couple of months
but we both have had health issues, so have been
staying here for dr. visits. I go tomorrow to see
one about my leg pains.
Havent much to report on the radio front. I did try
to catch all the Route 66 on the air stations. Got
19 of the 21, missing Oklahoma City and Lebanon, Mo.

Good evening Daryl and Bob.
Yup, it has cooled off. It was like a light switch,
one day we have temps in the high 90s and the next
it's cloudy, rainy and the high...maybe 75F. This
morning was 44F and I didn't feel like going for a
bike ride.
The past week I was occupied with antenna work again,
when it was dry.
I think I mentioned that I had put up an end fed
from the front peak of the roof on our trailer, to
the top of a 30 ft pine tree behind the house. I
couldn't get the SWR to come below 3:1.
I spent the week up and down on the roof trying
different things like, lengthening the coax to >50
ft, playing around with different lengths and number
of counterpoise. What finally fixed it was running
a wire from the counterpoise connection on the 9:1
balun to a nail in the ground...working good now on
80M, 40M and 30M, and as a bonus I can work 160M.
The antenna work took up all my time. OH, forgot, we
had our tech guys head up to a couple of mountain top
repeater sites last week, so also spent some time
monitoring the repeater frequencies for testing and
safety while they were driving the forestry roads.

Bob, sorry for the delay in replying. Darn Windows 11
screensaver kicked in...I thought I had disabled that,
but I guess the last Windows Update removed that.
I don't know if they finished 4-lane-ing (there's a
word for you) US 65 from Clinton, Arkansas up through
Harrison, and into Branson...it was 4 lanes from Conway
to Clinton 3 years ago. However, with dry corneas, I
quit driving 3 months ago, and have to take Lyft to
errands, or depend on friends.
Rick, FB on the antennas and the weather...bummer on
the high SWR. Now, if the propagation will just cooperate.
